If Cardoso could have seen Rf7!
By Lev Khariton
The more I delve into Kasparov's epic on his predecessors, the more I
see the striking disparity between the high-class analysis of numerous
blockbusters created by outstanding chess players in the course of
nearly 50 years of chess history and, at the same time, more than
dubious remarks ( I would rather call them Kasparov's...

Another Supergame in European Championship Round 10 by
PeteCasso
Karjakin vs Moiseenko is a supergame by the former, to replay the game, try
ICC or your favotite site.
15 year old superboy Karjakin is now back in the sole lead, since the other
co-leaders drew against each other in Ivanchuk vs Nisipeanu, also an
interesting game, where Nisipeanu lashed out with his pawns to force
Ivanchuk to sacrifice a Bishop. In the previous round 9, Ivanchuk won a
supergame...

Tal vs. Petrosian at Candidates Tournament 1959 by
Claus van de Vlierd
Hello ,
a) I remember having read somewhere some years ago that
Michail Tal once admitted that his draw in the 26. round of the
"Candidates Tournament 1959" had been prearranged between these two
players (it was , seemingly , a wild game with some sacrifices and
ended in a draw after 24 moves .. !)
b) anybody around who knows / remembers the source of such a candid
"Tal-remark" ?!?

chess magazine "64" and Petrosian and Geller .. by
Claus van de Vlierd
Hello ,
a) on http://pkchess.bizland.com/chesspress/nov-dec-04/geller.html
Lev Khariton writes that in 1965 the editor-in-chief of the
Russian chess-magazine "64" , the then World Champion Tigran Petrosian,
wrote some very nasty remarks about Geller's readiness to substitute
Ex-world-champion M. Botvinnik in the Candidates tournament 1965
(from which resulted the next challenger for...

John Nunn........ by
EZoto
Is he the greatest chess author ever? I don't ever recall him putting
out a bad book and his books are great learning tools. There are
players who wrote one great book or a couple of them but his seem to
stand out. Any comments?

Hydra vs Adams Game 5 by
PeteCasso
A closed Ruy Lopez in which Hydra played d3 and Adams played Bg4 to pin the
Nf3, and lo and behold, Adams gives up his beautiful Bg4 by playing BxN!
oy, Adams is just a normal human being who needs to have his face painted to
resemble a camel ;-)

2005 US Cadet Ch. Crosstable by
Gunsberg
The event was held as a Double Round Robin Quadrangular. That might
be suitable for a weeknight Action Swiss, but it seems obvious that had
there been better promotion, and had the dates of the event not
conflicted with the School years of many of the potentially eligible
players, they would have been able to garner more than 4 Entries

Why so many titled players? by
John J.
Back in the 70's when I was most active, there were maybe 80 Grandmasters.
Now there are almost 1000!!!
Is it because of title inflation, better study methods, better
tools(computers), or more folks playing chess...?
I would like to know your opinions.
Thanks!

Examples of Sloan's eloquence by
Taylor Kingston
THE ADMIRABLE SAM SLOAN: MR. CLEAN
"Mr. Sloan's language is cleaner than that of most of his gutter
critics ..." - Larry Parr, rgcp, 23 June 2005
"I never paraded Mr. Sloan as a paragon; I stated that he is to be
admired in certain ways when compared with a Brock, Booz, Trollsby or
now humbled Kingston," - Larry Parr, rgcp, 23 June 2005
Thank you for your opinions, Larry. Let us explore the...
