Simon Webb murdered by
According to today's Times
http://www.timesonline.co.uk/article/0,,2-1536094,00.html
GM Simon Webb (best known for correspondence play & for his book
"Chess for Tigers") was stabbed to death a week ago, apparently
by his son.
This is very sad - I met Simon Webb at Hastings many many years ago,
(he was a star, I a patzer) and he seemed a thoroughly pleasant man.

Gone Fisching? by
Chess One
In another newsgroup Larry Parr has been diagnosed:-
Larry Parr *did* twist this to be some sort of statement about CL' s
internal
rules...in part because Larry Parr is mentally ill.
There's a lot of it around during this season.
In the public newsgroups there is so much psychological commentary
concerning the Fischer affair that one might think it was a convention of

Boris Spassky signed a letter to ban Jewish organizations by
Peter van der Hoog
About 5,000 people, including former world chess champion Boris Spassky,
have signed a letter asking prosecutors to ban Jewish organizations because
they believe one of the basic Judaic books professes religious hatred, said
a center that monitors religious freedom.

Historians help - looking for player info by
zdrakec
Hello all:
Can anyone point me to some information about one "Guillermo Garcia
Gonzales", who played in the 1982 Moscow Interzonal tournament (won by
Kasparov)? I have, of course, Google'd him, but the information I have
found has not seemed very reliable.
In particular, I am curious to know: what is his country of origin;
what titles he held (if any) at the time the Interzonal was played,...

Is FischerRandom a "stolen invention" that's over 200 years old? by

Is FischerRandom a "stolen invention" that's really over 200 years old?
Tim Krabb=E9 maintains that "Fischer Random" is a "stolen invention"
that might more properly be called "Count Van Zuylen van NijeveltRandom

Thought process by
SKyWalker
hello,
I have posted a few of my games here around a month back, and i have had
quite a lot of valuable advice from these groups.
Based on one of the leads i have got from here, i was checking out the Dans
Novice Nook column in Chess Cafe. Dan says after Tactical patterns, the next
best thing to work on are (1) Thought process and (2) Time Mgmt.
Now that i have had my rounds with Bains book...
