Fischer gets more support in Japan parliament / the 'UN' point by
banana
The point that 'Fischer's incarceration weakens Japan's case for
permanent membership of the UN Security Council' is not as silly as some
people might think. Basically the point is: 'why should the Japanese
government get a permanent seat - and veto - if it can't stand its
ground on the "human rights issue" of the US government's persecution of
a single individual?'
Note the important point that...

Is it the way to quit chess?
By Lev Khariton
Kasparov's announcement on quitting his professional chess career was
a bolt from the blue for many chess fans. However, I was not too much
surprised. Far amazing for me were, however, the following words
pronounced by the 13th World Champion: "Today it is obvious that
there will be never any unified World Championship. Other goals do not
attract me...

Fischer -> Iceland if citizen - party leader meets Iceland ambassador by
banana
Mizuho Fukushima, head of Japan's Social Democratic Party, has said that
immigration officials told her that if Fischer becomes an Icelandic
citizen, Japanese authorities will allow him to leave for Iceland.
She is to meet the Icelandic ambassador tomorrow.
I bet the US goons in Reykjavik (or Keflavik) are annoyed at this.
Fischer is being held illegally of course, but let us hope he...

What were they thinking!? by
Mike Cox
Have you ever seen a chess game annotation or maybe a live game where the
opponent made unorthodox or unexpected moves that ultimately lead to a
brilliant victory? I would like you to post notation of such games, that
totally amazed you in their sheer unorthodox and innovative brilliance and
execution.

Chess and Insanity by
Jeremy Spinrad
I thought I would continue my discussion of this issue by looking at
a set of players, to get the ball rolling. I hope that some of you will
be able to help me regarding players I know little or nothing about.
Since I did not get a recommendation for which chess players to study,
I decided to try not to bias matters by picking prizewinners from a
set of tournaments given in a book in my...
