InfiniTTT - Infinite Tic Tac Toe by
David Moraes
I discovered a great new thining board game called InfiniTTT or
Infinite Tic Tac Toe. This is essentially Tic Tac Toe played on a near
infinite grid. 5 in a row wins. The maxim - "A minute to learn. A
lifetime to master" although stolen from Reversi is really true for
this game. Actually it should take less than a minute to learn since
we all know how to play the classic tic tac toe. The windows...

Strangest Deaths of Chess Players by
Jeremy Spinrad
The recent posts on Vera Menchik's death bring up the issue of which prominent
chess players have died in the strangest ways. Some at least somewhat unusual
deaths that I know of
Mrs. Stevenson, prominent British player, killed by an airplane propellor
Gilberg, suffocated on his pillow
St Amant, fell out of his carriage

TSIC This Second in Chess on Linares Round 10 by
PeteCasso
As someone who has relinquished control over his own time even on weekends,
I came in even later than on weekdays, oy! I am at move 22 of Kasparov v
Vallejo Pons, the position looks like to have developed from a d4 opening
with a White fianchetto, Black has pretty well equalized.
Adams appears to be spinning his web against Kasimdzhanov having inflicted a
Black double pawn on the e-file, but oy...

Online chess-trainer by
Frank
I plan to hire a chess-trainer on ICC or playchess.com and would like to know your experience with such a kind of training. Did it work for you and how much did you pay ? I thought of 20-30 dollars or euro per hour. I am 32 with a Fide-rating of 2220 and my aim is to reach the level of a Fide-Master, what means more than 2300. Anyone there whoever made such an improvement by onlinetraining?
Thank...

Yahoo chess bugs by
msadkins04@yahoo.com
I recently played a game where my opponent, just at the point where I
began to turn the game around in my favor (after recovering from an
early error), took nearly 10 minutes to move, but instead of moving, or
resigning, or communicating, or responding to communication, he, she,
or it simply "stood up" ("left the table").
This should have resulted in a default win for me, inasmuch as it was a
de...

Fischer's Icelandic passport arrives; Japan cuts off all his contacts by
banana
The latest news is that while the Icelandic embassy in Tokyo holdsF
Fischer's Icelandic passport, the Japanese authorities have cut off all
of his contacts with the outside world, including with lawyers, the
media, and visitors. Two days ago they also prevented him meeting with
Icelandic officials. Let us hope that a handover to US captors is not
imminent.

TSIC This Second in Chess on Linares Round 9 by
PeteCasso
Just in time to watch a possible zeitnot drama in Kasimdzhanov v Kasparov,
White has only 8 minutes left to time control, Black 71 minutes, looks like
one reason why Black invested an exchange for a pawn, or is it homework on
Black's part? Black has 'nothing' in the position, so he has to make it as
time consuming as possible for White to find the right moves.

Lost in the shahades? by
Anders Thulin
Jennifer Shahade's book on women in chess has been said to be published
by Siles Press in 2004.
No trace of it can be found, though -- does anyone know if it's still
on, or if it has been canceled?

TSIC This Second in Chess on Linares Round 8 by
PeteCasso
I'm looking at Kasparov v Leko starting at move 22. Kasparov apparently has
a significant edge in that Leko has two backward pawns at d6 and f6, more
space, and the more active pieces, e.g. Leko can't easily develop his Ng8,
the White Bh4 pinning f6 with the Black Qe7 and Re8 behind it. White has a
doubled pawn on the c-file, and still has to develop his Ra1, but he can
flexibly use it to fire...
