More on Fritz 5.32 by Dan-the-K
I've downloaded Fritz 5.32 and can't get it to work as an engine in ChessBase interfaces (Junior 8, Hiarcs 8) or in Winboard. It's very very nice as a standalone utility but I don't want another chess user interface. I also can't get any of my dozen or so engines to work with it. Any ideas or suggestions? Which engines would work under Fritz 5.32? BTW, the Hiarcs package included a file...

en passant help by spudsrfr123@yahoo.com
lets say a white pawn moves from row 2 to row 4 (a double jump), and a black pawn is on row 3 to the right or left of the white pawn, can the black pawn move horizontely to row 3 directly behind the white pawn, and capturing the white pawn en passant? or does an en passant move only work when the offensive pawn moves diagonaly to row 3, behind the defensive pawn?

ChessBase says that Svidler v Morozevich is an insane game. But Painternik v Grischuk is much more exciting! Painternik painted beautifully with really forceful strokes, but Grischuk managed a miracle save in the rook endgame, and the painting eventually shows a draw. Enjoy the painting guys!

shipov article - where to find ? by keithnospam@gosfordchess.com
A couple of years ago I read an online article, perhaps at Kasparov chess, about computers not being reliable at analysing some positions - such as a bunch of light-squared bishops and not recognising it as a draw. And various other examples. Can anyone point me the way where I could find this - I would be most grateful ! ! thanks

Prison Chess Program by RMille9601
Since 1970 I have been sending chess sets, books, boards, clocks, to people in prison. Several times Larry Evans has published in CHESS LIFE a request for help. I need money, sets, boards, books, clocks. Send loose pieces! No magazines except NEW IN CHESS and SQUARES. The response to Evans was very good - but that stopped about 20 years ago. Since then, every time he mentions Prison Chess I have...

Improving my chess - How? by Dean Jarratt
I installed a Chess game on my phone and couple of years ago. Since then I've been playing it on the easy setting; which is still quite tricky, whenever I've had a toilet break (ugh...more info than you needed). Sometimes I win, sometimes I don't. I've noticed however that when I win, the computer makes a glaring error which I can capitalize on. If I knock up the difficulty to where the computer...

How to start a school chess club by southcentral@us.net
Okay, so some of you read about the chess ban at my school, but suppose I want to start a club anyway (after school, ad hoc, etc, there is always a way around these things). These kids are rank beginners. When should I encourage them to play in tournments, etc. What type of national organizations exist. And how should I go about training them without ruining them since I am only a few steps...
