Chess Banned at my School by
southcentral@us.net
I manage farmining operations for absentee landlords in the southern US. I
also teacher HS science whenever a school needs a science teacher, since I
have a master's in biology and science educators are hard to find. The past
three years I have been at a small country school (and I mean deep in the
woods) that has some remarkably talented academic students. I have played
at Chess for 42 years,...

All,
I apologize for the late response. I haven't visited rgcp in a while.
Sorry to see you here. Kindly go crawl back under the rock where you
came from. The last time you came here you brought in the era where
the USCF lost two million dollars. How much will you lose for us this
time?

Kasparov First Loss after winning Title in 1985? by
RMille9601
I think it might be Timman-Kasparov Hilversum Dec 1985. But those might have
been speed games since it appears they played 3 games. Chandler beat Kasparov
at Hamburg 1985 but I am not sure when that event was held.
Might have been even as late as May 1986 when Fe. Fernandez won a game as
Black.

Los Angeles Open Tournament Results by
expochess07@yahoo.com
On Sunday, Feb. 6th, our chess club, the Exposition Park Chess
Club http://chess.expoparkla.com/] hosted a free, unrated, three-round
chess tournament at the Exposition Park Library
http://www.lapl.org/branches/06.html] in Los Angeles, California.
The tournament consisted of eight quads. The eighth quad was
assisted by Kevin Bulone, who functioned as the tournament's house
player. There were,...

Predictions for Linares, '05 by
fizzy
Interesting predictions, but I doubt that Anand will lose three games,
and I think that both Kaspy and Anand will finish higher than Adams.
In fact, I pick Kasparov to win because I think, strangely, he has the
most to prove right now and will be very focused.

Any Handheld unit with tactical drills by
ryeung@earthlink.net
I'm looking for a decent handheld (with touch screen
rather than loose pieces) that not only play games
(with different skill level setting), but also offers
puzzles or 1-3 moves tactical drills (openings, mid/end-games
are fine).
I've looked at some of Saitek's models, but they all
seem to be for game playing only.
Any recommendation?

CL editor and photo cutlines by
Miriling
One can only hope that the Chess Life editor knows the difference between a
tournament and a match. In the January 2005 issue of the magazine - page 20 -
the following cutline appears under the photo on the page:
Vladimir Kramnik, reigning champion, studies the board in Round 12
Rounds are played in tournaments, not matches. The Kramnik-Leko match consisted
of games. It is incorrect to refer to...

What are the major tournaments by
Freddy
What are the major chess tournaments and when are they?
I'm a newbie to following chess tournaments (on the net) and recently
enjoyed the Corus event. What other major tournaments should I be looking
out for? I've seen Linares mentioned, so I guess that's a pending biggie. Is
there a calendar of such events?
Thanks in anticipation

Lev Khariton: Asking Taylor Kingston on grandmaster Y.Averbakh by
SveLeo@aol.com
Dear Taylor,
Recently I browsed some of the ChessCafe archives and came across that
interview you took from grandmaster Yuri Averbakh. It was really a good
job! However, there is one question I would like to ask you.
You know quite well that some years ago ChessCafe posted the letter
that Averbakh had sent to FIDE soon after Viktor Korchnoi's defection
requesting FIDE not to allow Korchnoi to...
