Nakamura Wins Match by
ian burton
Nakamura smashed Karjakin in the 6-game match in Mexico, winning by a score
of 4.5-1.5. Karjakin played the endgame of the fifth game poorly, perhaps
throwing away a draw. The sixth (and unnecessary) game was the usual messy
affair, with Nakamura coming through on the complications.
We await with eagerness Nakamura's next international encounter. Is he the
real deal or not?

How to open a game at a specific position in Chess Assistant 7.1 by
Jan Libbrecht
What is mentioned below, is possible under Tools Options List "Start
notation from search criterion". In this case, CA lists the selected games
starting from the search position and also opens them in View mode at this
specific position.
However, this was not really my question.
My question was more like: can I indicate a move in game 1 (e.g. move 12 for
Black) and a move in game 2 (e.g....

Botvinnik - Euwe 1946 and Lasker - Rubinstein 1914 by
Claus van de Vlierd
Hello ,
while looking into some old endgame books I stumbled again over this
famous endgame "Botvinnik - Euwe 1946 (W : Kf4 , Rc3 , Pe4,g4,h4 ;
B : Ke6 , Rc8 , Pc4,g6,h7 ; Euwe continued 39..h6) .
The Russians chess authors tend to praise Botvinnik for drawing this
difficult endgame (by the way : Lasker won a very similar endgame
against Rubinstein 1914 -- basically the h-pawns were...

Chess News on Fox Channel 5 News Tonight at 10 by
Sam Sloan
I just saw the announcement on Channel 5. The lead story on the 10
o'clock news tonight will be that the Morrow High School in Brooklyn
won the natinal high school championship where 1200 kids competed and
they were greeted by the President.
If you live in New York City, be sure to turn on the Channel 5 News
tonight at 10 PM. It could be an important story for us teachers of
chess.

Rook + Bishop versus Rook + Knight .. by
Claus van de Vlierd
Hello ,
a) in "Winning Endgame Strategy" by
Beliavsky and Mikalchishin ; Batsford 2000 , you find on
page 141 a statement that GM Shveshnikov belongs to the small
group of GM's that regard the combination "R + N" as stronger than
"R + B" .
Can anyone confirm this by a quotation from Mr. Shveshnikov himself ?!
(by the way : isn't there , in the "chess-folklore" , something like

My 60 Memorable Games by
Cheree
Looking for a copy of My 60 Memorable Games. My son has asked for a copy of
this book for Christmas. I understand it is out of print and I have been
searching on the Internet. I'm unsure what edition, but maybe the 1969
edition? I know he does not want the Bratsford(sp?) edition.
Thanks for any help!

The Beatriz and Judy Show by
Sam Sloan
The main issue is to keep Beatriz from having her hands on the money.
If Beatriz and Judy are co-Acting Executive Directors of the USCF,
does Beatriz get to fire Judy or can Judy fire Beatriz? Who gets to
sign the checks? For sure, this situation will not last long. It will
be the Beatriz and Judy Show.
