Corus 2008 Final Results by
RookHouse
Levon Aronian of Armenia and Magnus Carlsen of Norway shared first
place in Group A, both drawing with their respective opponents in the
final round. India's Viswanthan Anand could have had a piece of first
place if he had defeated Vladimir Kramnik today, but had to settle for
a draw against his Russian opponent for the world title later this
year.

Ulevitch Report by
J.D. Walker
Dear Chess Friends,
This is wonderful long-anticipated news! The third report has shown
definite signs of emerging on the public scene. This is so very welcome
in our current climate of transparency! How many reports do we need
before our skeptics can admit that smoke does indeed strongly suggest fire?

CB9 upgrade by
e4.c5
I posted this in rec.games.chess.computer, (no response) does anyone use CB9
these days ;)
I have CB7 and was wondering if its worth getting the upgrade to CB9. CB7
has its fair share of bugs, is CB9 any better?
Have they fixed all the bugs in CB9 yet or would I have to ponce about
downloading patches.

Chessboard of a Champion by
zdrakec
Hello all, and especially the historians out the
Today I happened to see once again the famous photograph of Alexander
Alekhine sitting, dead, in his hotel room (in Estoril, Portugal, if
memory serves?). At his right hand was a fairly large chessboard, set
up for play. This board appeared to be a travel set, since it appears
that there are holes for pegs in the center of each square - or do...

This e-mail received this morning from our on-site special reporter at Wijk

nothing published at Chessville until the weekend, I thought it might
sponsor a few conversations here. Perhaps we can still publish this piece,
with additional comments by this newsgroups players? //Phil Innes

Fischer and Chessbase by

Was reading the latest article about Fischer. Just looking at the
pictures of him in his last months makes you wish the pictures
equalled the inside but they didn't. However I can imagine that it
would have looked this way if he had chosen another path in life. The
article is sad though and again it is about his money. But for a

Fischer's obituary in Newsweek by

FOR HIM, THE GAME WAS EVERYTHING
Bobby Fischer, 64, chess master.
He became a grandmaster at age 15 and a cold-war hero at 29, when he
dethroned the Soviet world champion Boris Spassky in a storied 1972
match. Soon after, though, Fischer, a temptestuous personality,
withdrew from the public eye. Following two decades of seclusion, he
emerged briefly in 1992, defying an executive order by...

Mr Phit beat Easy Level. by

Easy Level plays better than Beginner Level. But look at this game Mr
Pill took so many pawns of Easy Level as if Easy was playing wrong
moves.
Was Easy really playing the wrong moves or it was Played because of
some Mate Threath.
