Stanley Random Chess - an Introduction by
Gregory Topov
Previously I have made a contribution in this newsgroup about Stanley Random
Chess (SRC). In the interests of the dedication of other Stanley Random
Chess fans to this memorable and exciting variant, I have recently published
"The GM Topov Stanley Random Chess Files" online.
Seven articles are available from this website, including:
1. An Introduction to GM Lord Humberton-Snapf
2. The Emergence...

Sloan vs. USCF: Amazing by
Matt Nemmers
Does anyone else find it truly amazing that somebody like Sam Sloan --
somebody who can't even manage his own life, care for his own children
(legitimate or otherwise), or hold down a steady (and legal) job, and
somebody who has been soundly thrashed for every single office for which
he's ever run, including the USCF Executive Board (numerous times) -- thinks
that HE knows how to run the United...

Tony Rook and Chess.FM and ICC by
Gene Venable
I see from the ICC site that Tony Rook has announced that he is not
returning to ICC. This is sad, since from my perspective, Chess.FM was
one of the best things to have happened to chess in a long time. ICC
is attempting to continue with Chess.FM, though it was virtually
destroyed by ICC some time ago; they needed Tony Rook, who they appear
to have chased away. I was at the Chess.FM commentary...

Tony Cottell and USCF Finances by

From the FIDE newsgroup
"I well remember attending US Opens throught out the 1990's and listening to
numerous delegates expressing contempt for Cottel's fiscally conservative
ideas. Cottel was ignored and the USCF nearly went broke."

I posted a message earlier to these groups and it didn't show up.
Is there some kind of filter in these chess newsgroups that eliminates

Calculations in chess by
Sabareesh
Hello All,
Thanks to everyone for their postings to my question last time.
Being a 1400 level player, I'm trying to improve my game and I'm on
the look out for theory on how to calculate better. This includes
strategies and tactics too. I'm certainly not looking for magic pills
that will help me beat my opponents today, thats not my objective, I'm
trying to organise my game in a better way.

Beatriz says that she is resigning effective January 1 by
Parrthenon
Mike Murray is right. If Sam's charge is true about Beatriz stepping into the
ED's position after a planned resignation as president, then you have conflict
of interest as well as the establishment of a horrendous precedent. But you do
not have embezzlement except in the most attenuated sense of the word -- so
attenuated, in truth, that the word should never have been used.
We have to oppose...

The origins of chess by
Jestrada
Or is there a maximum length for a post perhaps? In my post I had
attempted to paste a fairly lengthy article by GM Gregory Topov (first
posted on another newsgroup I think). It was the one where he
introduces and explains what he calls the "original" form of chess.
He defends the rather bizarre thesis that chess as we know it is
merely a simplified form of Stanley Random Chess (SR Chess), and...

Sam Scores Glorious Victory by
Parrthenon
TWO RED FLAGS
"There's a big difference between the complaint that the debate about
relocation hasn't gotten enough public airing, and the complaint that
significant debate hasn't taken place at all. The first complaint, if true,
_might_ indicate lack of democratic process and so on; the second, if true,
_would_ indicate gross incompetence." -- Larry Tapper

Chessmaster 7000 by
Hank B.
I was given Chessmaster 7000 along with some books by a friend .Is there
anyway on Chessmaster 7000 one can setup a position from a diagram in the
book and move the pieces for black and white so as to reproduce the game
being described rather than having the computer take over and make moves?

Kramnik by
Hans Jørgen Lassen
Kasparov said:
It was Kramnik who played the more interesting chess. But as it was hard for
him to get through Leko's defence, the final score looks justified. I am
used to the idea that everything has a just and logical conclusion. Leko
played cynically towards the end of the match, trying to hold up the lead is
against Kramnik. I have always said that Leko is a tough opponent for
Kramnik,...

Lasker-Steintz 1894 by
RMille9601
I think the Lasker-Steinitz world championship in 1894 the games were COPYRIGHT
and sold to newspapers, wire services, etc. during the match. Spectators had to
sign a paper saying they would not distribute the game scores, etc.. I need to
know the exact wording of the "contract" for the spectators, or where it can be
found.
