Bobby Fischer's Lawyer is Hot on the Case by
PeteCasso
It would be interesting to know what Andy Davis thinks about the recent
Fischer case.

Bobby Fischer's Lawyer is Hot on the Case
I just received a call-back from Andy Davis, famous among chess
players as Bobby Fischer's Lawyer during the 1972 Fischer-Spassky

Please check your country Olympic records by
OlimpBase
The all-time Olympic statistics are ready (would you ever believe?!) but
they are still full of bugs of all kind. Players names' spelling is perhaps
most sensitive point. The Olympic bulletins and other printed sources
provide low-quality data regarding the spelling. So it is only up to you
whether our database will get rid of errors and cavities. (...)
If player names' from your country are...

Stupid Americans! -- Stupid... Stupid... STUPID!!! __________==___ emascibu by
NoMoreChess
..
In the last big war, the Finns used to fly those Me.109 thingos
decorated with pale-blue swastikas..
Self-defense. At one time, the American Indians used rifles and ammunition
made by the evil White Man to defend their lands against same. I don't recall
reading anywhere how the injuns filed-off the names "Colt" or "Remington" from
these guns and replaced them with "Running Wolf" or...

Repairing BHB Chess clock? by
Brendan S (Scratch User)
I have a BHB analog chess clock which has gone bung. I think I can fix it if I can get the dang back off it. The back is in two pieces. Each piece is held on by 3 screws (easy peasy, unscrew those screws) but is also blocked by the winding key - and this sucker refuses to move.
The clock is plastic and looks like this:

It has a...

e4 of d4? by
Graeme
It's better to play P-K4 than e4. That's what Fischer always played.
Not always.
--Harold Buck
Yes, given the choice of P-K4 or e4, Fischer always chose P-K4, which was best
by test. e4, he never even deigned to take notice of.

Dan Scoones to the Rescue by
PeteCasso
Here is a long interview with Kramnik in Russian
http://www.chesspro.ru/events/kramnik.shtml
Running it through Babelfish, it appears to comprise of three parts:
1) The match with Leko (completely uninteresting)
2) His playing style, 'Drawnik', his rating (somewhat interesting)
3) Re-unification (extremely interesting)
Dan, can you come to the rescue and tell us what Kramnik said about item 3)

David Levy on Re-Unification by
PeteCasso
Urging to press on with re-unification as most people understood it.
With a slant: if Kramnik does not want to play, then replace him with Anand.
With a realistic proposal on how to keep the title unified afterwards.
Interesting comments, although slanted in peculiar ways

Sloan vs. Marinello, petition by
Parrthenon
Dear Sam,
More power to you this time because your suit is in the interests of
the USCF's future. I hope you can get an injunction to stop the attempted
fait accompli.
In most fields, you get what you pay for. While somebody will now
inform us (for the umpteenth time) about Sam's win in a case argued at
the U.S. Supreme Court, maybe Sam can give us his overall record in
court -- my guess...

Fischer's tournaments by
Alan OBrien
Recently I noticed how average Fischer's record was in winning major
international chess tournaments.
He won Mar del Plata 1960, Stockholm Interzonal 1962, Skopje 1967,
Rovinj/Zagreb and Buenos Aires 1970.
It is a fair record, I suppose, but it is nothing like Larsen or Keres.

Keep Fischer in the News ... by
PeteCasso
.... to support him. We should not forget Fischer because of the FIDE soap
opera. The last bit of a big news agency that I could find, is already two
weeks old, from Reuters:
http://www.reuters.co.uk/newsPackageArticle.jhtmltype=worldNews&storyID=604801§ion=news
If someyone has something more recent on Fischer, please post!
