Cajunchess Triple-wtd, experiences? by Colleyville Alan
I've been thinking of getting a board and chess pieces and really like the prices on the cajunchess site for the triple-weighted pieces. But when I was searching the archives, someone expressed that they had problems with weights coming loose and tops breaking off kings, etc. But the statement also implied that this was some time ago and that things may have improved. Anyone have a recent...

Lev Khariton: Yevgeni Gik, A Turncoat Of A Journalist by Aryeh Davidoff
Yevgeni Gik, A Turncoat of a Journalist By Lev Khariton Oh, my God, is there any limit to unpleasant surprises? Or to bad people? This is what I thought reading Yevgeni Gik’s article “The Kind Man Who Supports Terrorism” published in the newspaper “Moscovski Komsomolets” on August 31. Today on September 3 it was reprinted in New York by the Russian paper “V Novom Svete”( In the New World”).

Why the extra game as White? by Tom F.
I see that Kramnik will get an extra game as White?!? Why is this. It makes no sense to me. 14 games. 7 as White each. It this a tournament or what? Tom

Best translation of "My System" by Sonja Kisa
What is the best English translation of My System? I want it in algebraic. I see there's one by Hardinge Simpole Limited (ISBN: 1843821079) and one by Hays Pub (ISBN: 1880673851). Also, at what level should I start reading it. Should I wait until I'm 1600 or something? (As I'm around 1100, I'm focusing on books by Yasser Seirawan and Jeremy Silman for now.) Peace, Sonja

World Chess Championship 2004 - Why the draw offer in game 6? by Jonathan Beckett
Has anybody got any idea why there was a draw offer in game 6? In my opinion, Leko's (black) position looked good, and Kramnik (white) had managed his time badly in a complicated position. It smells of "fix" to me... Jonathan Beckett http://www.pluggedout.com/blog

Sam Sloan's Best Games of Chess by Sam Sloan
Here are four of my best games of chess. The first is probably the best game I ever played, with a fantastic queen sacrifice followed by smothered mate at the end. My opponent was a woman chess player who often changes her married name. Her name at the time of this game was Gina Wolski. She is also known as Gina Sanchez. The second is a game I beat Grandmaster Walter Browne. It was published in...

Kasparov lost against Rublevsky ... by PeteCasso
.... at least according to the official web site of the European Club Cup http://www.tsf.org.tr/web2/ataturk.htm (select the game from the viewer) Kasparov was a pawn up in a rook endgame, but overpressed and lost, ouch. If he continues this way, then his rating would go down 2800-. Rublevsky is around 2650 these days!

web based club software by Stephen J. Mahler
Does anyone have a pointer to software to support a Chess Club. Looking not so much for ratings calculations or on-line chess, but ... Support for I'm looking for a game, Friday afternoon. Allow people to respond and propose and confirm game times and locations. Support for a General Forum to help with club business and general discussions between the members. Maybe a system for within a...

Why are super GMs scared of the Zaitsev Variation? by Ivan
I have noticed that when Anand and Kramnik try to play the Zaitsev variation with Bb7 against Leko, he does not want to play the mainline with d4. Instead he wimps out with playing d3. What is the deal? Is the Zaitsev really that powerful of an opening for black? I thought Kasparov had already demonstrated methods to tame this opening during the Kasparov-Karpov contests of the 80s. thanks,

buying knights only by tim wilde
Does anyone have any idea where I could buy knight pieces exclusively? I'm making an old classic puzzle as a christmas gift for a few friends and family, and need to buy about 40 knights, twenty of each color, for the ten wooden boards I'm crafting. If I have to I'll buy twenty cheap chess sets to get the pieces, but it just seems a hell of a waste to throw out all the other pieces. I tend to...

Boringest World chess championship. by Jack
Which were the boringest world chess championship fights? I think Kramnik-leko get my vote now. - No new opening systems or surprises - frequent short draws/ no fighting spirit - both kramnik and leko aren't in # 1 or 2 on the ratings list
