Google format change? by Taylor Kingston
Looking at rgcm via Google this morning, I noticed a major format change that, for me at least, renders everything much harder to read. Anyone else having the same problem?

Lev Khariton: Are Giants Lilliputians? Kasparov's indifference&Korchnoi's Betrayal by Aryeh Davidoff
Are Giants Lilliputians? / Kasparov’s Indifference& Korchnoi’s Betrayal / In the interview given to Yevgeny Atarov (www.chesspro.ru) Garry Kasparov when asked why nothing is being done to liberate Robert Fischer from Tokyo’s prison and not to allow his extradition to the United States, the new Russian Champion said:” You know, we, chess players, are very non-chalant...

Lasker-Steintz 1894 by RMille9601
I think the Lasker-Steinitz world championship in 1894 the games were COPYRIGHT and sold to newspapers, wire services, etc. during the match. Spectators had to sign a paper saying they would not distribute the game scores, etc.. I need to know the exact wording of the "contract" for the spectators, or where it can be found. Russell Miller, Chelan WA posting a message for James Schroeder who does...

Historical Origins of Stanley Random Chess by Gregory Topov
The origins of Stanley Random Chess have been the subject of debate by scholars for century. In his last article, GM Topov provides some personal insights on this controversial subject. Contrary to popular belief, the origins of Stanley Random Chess (SR Chess) are in fact evolutionary in nature. Although I am a fierce opponent of Darwin's theory of evolution and do not for a moment give any...

2005 World Open MOVED? by Ray Gordon
Channel 10 in Philadelphia just reported that the Adam's Mark Hotel in Philadelphia (on City Avenue) will be closing on January 30, 2005, as the land has been purchased by a Target. I got this report second-hand from someone who was watching it, so please double-check it, but they say that's what they heard. -- http://www.cybersheet.com/easy.html Seduction Made Easy. Fearless Randy Bauer fears certified mail from Sam Sloan by Parrthenon
If I were on the USCF Executive Board, I would also refuse a certified letter from Sam Sloan. Why? Because if I believed his legal suit to be of ill-informed purpose, my job would be to make Sam's job tough as can be. I see no reason to criticize Mr. Bauer or any other Board member, given their own lights, for refusing certified letters from Sam. One notices in the postings today that Sam's...

Opening Plans Resource? by Phx000
I'm an intermediate player (1400-1700, depending on whether I'm on or off a roll) hoping to improve. I've built an opening repertoire for myself which I understand is not the BEST use of my chess time. I think if I understood more about the plans behind the openings that I use I could recoup a little of that lost time. Is there an online resource that explains or describes what the general...

Open Chess Tournament Los Angeles by Panjandrum11
This is a Summons to Chess Tourney! Are you an utterly obsequious coward? We, the partisans, paladins, and protagonists of the Exposition Park Chess Club very greatly desire the attendance of brave chess players. This coming first Sunday of the month, Dec. 5th, shall be the occasion of a free, unrated, three-round chess tournament. Cash prizes will *NOT* be awarded, but the names of the winners...

international rapid chess ratings by beliavsky@aol.com
Is there an international rating system for rapid chess? If there were, I assume that Anand would be ranked #1, but I would like to see the numbers.

What is the world rated? by Trent L
Every once in awhile, I see a game where a GM plays against The World (i.e. thousands of players online). The players all vote for moves, and the winning move is played against the GM. Does anyone know what The World is typically rated in these scenarios? It seems like The World would be very easy to beat, since it would be hard for it to come up with a coherent strategy. If someone like...

How to adjust difficulty of Fritz 8? by leizhch
Hi, I am a beginner with chess, I have use Fritz to practice. But I found it's too hard to win Fritz 8. Yesterday I found the player in Chessmaster 10th with Elo 1100 is right for my level. But I still want to use Fritz since it have smaller size. So my question is how to adjust Fritz 8 thinking time or something else to make it as strong as Elo 1100 player. Is there any formula? thank you!

Rules Question from National Chess Congress by PJDBAD
I returned to tournament play recently after a few years absence. I noted a warning about cell phone ringers was fairly effective among actual players but not among spectators and those who had finished playing. There also seemed to be an increase in spectators, parents, siblings and relatives. I have nothing against children watching games in progress if that is what they are doing. But why...
