Games of Mainz'2004 by Stefek Borkowski
Hi there, Anyone knows where I can download the games of Mainz'2004 tournaments, namely FiNet(Chess960) and OrdixOpen? I do not mean the duels' games of Anand vs. Shirov and Svidler vs. Aronian, as those are easily accessible from the organizer's web site: http://www.chesstigers.de/cc/2004/e/default.htm. Strange, but I cannot find a link to download the above mentioned... Thanks for help. Regards...

Are these books the same? by had_ley@notsohotmail.com
I live in a very small town, so I have to buy books by mail or internet, sight unseen. I have heard that two very good books on chess are "My System" by Nimzovich, and "Chess Primer" by Capablanca. When searching for them on the internet, I often run across books that sound almost the same, i.e. "A Praxis of My System" by N., and "Chess Fundamentals" by C. Can anyone tell me if the latter...

Bernard Levin RIP by Vladimir Swordless
So so sorry that BL has left us. I had not realised that he had been quite so ill. He played bad chess and knew it, but wrote a couple of pieces on the subject one of which is added to a WCh book by Keene. "Nobody since Alekhine was more on auto-destruct" - Levin on Fischer. He is quoted in R James/M Fox book published by Faber on the royal game, and had the Jewish great respect that we...

Paging chessboard maker John Hardy... by utility_infielder@earthlink.net
Well back early June I posted here asking advice on a board to match my new House of Staunton set, 3" rosewood collectors series. TommyBoy was good enough to recomend John Hardy's 1-7/8" libary size board at Legends Products website. Trouble is, since then Legends has not been able to contact Mr. Hardy. So anyway if John ever lurks around here, well maybe he shall realize that Legends has some...

Dubai Chess City & FIDE Moving There !! by PeteCasso
Is this 'International Chess City' more of a PR thing or truly substantive? It will probably be beneficial for chess even if it is only 'more of a PR thing', but it will only be 'truly substantive' if it provides a permanent home and infrastructure support for things like WCCs and olympiads. It would also be a good idea to have the Emir of Dubai wave thousand dollar bills under the noses of...

August Chess Life -- more sordid objectification of women by The Masked Bishop
In a word, disgusting. Not the photo of Jennifer Shahade itself, but what it represents...a disgraceful editor's obsession with women as objects of desire. Shahade's name is not on the cover. Why should it be? That just takes away from the message, which is Pretty Face=Unstoppable. To give this woman a name might make her a person, not just an image of attractiveness. In case you missed the...

A very nice leather board, and not $$$ by TommyBoy
I've already plumped for a beautiful board from NZ-- near $300 for it including shipping, so this new find won't help me, but perhaps some of you. I'd never seen a true competitor for fincechess but this one I saw on ebay http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=2554&item=5913344631&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW seems plenty fine, and for half the $ of the NZ board. 2-1/4" full

Fischer by Curt Seefeldt
With all this hoopla going on about Fischer....did anyone think that perhaps this may be one of his final antics...appealing and all that? Consider his past behavior regarding his insane demands for this that and everything in any of the matches he played in. Consider his radical views. Seems to me it is finally catching up with him. About the charges he is facing...they have been mentioned in...

Irish pawn centre by Vladimir Swordless
Bernard Cafferty is English. The game was from the 1978 Zonal and the centre was malformed by Eamon Keogh. The reference to the Irishman quizzing bronstein appeared in CHESS magazine about 1958. These references are good humoured but if they choose to be offended, then look elsewhere. James Pratt (Basingstoke!)
