Beware Logicalchess.com by
ian burton
The website www.logicalchess.com offers quite a bit of nonsense. On one
page alone, I found:
*Weinstein, Norman (1950- )
Killed an 83-year old man in a nursing home - the first murder by a master.
He is serving a life sentence.
It wasn't Norman Weinstein, it was Raymond Weinstein.
* Winter committee

FA: Complete set of 1966-67 US Championship Bulletins on eBay by
michael atkins
Statting later on Wednesday night on eBay, a complete set of 1966-67
US Championship bulletins. Here is the eBay auction ad. Look at the
statement from Rd 3:
"There have been several complaints by more than one player that the
chess boards are not lighted well enough. Therefore, spectators are
requested to have lighted matches in their possession at all times
while the games are in progress....

Chessmaster feature by
Kilowatt
I like to play chess but I don't study the game. I would like to be able to
start a game with Chessmaster and have an option to tell
Chessmaster........Don't make that move but make the next best one.
This would give me a chance to play an opening without having to remember
what comes next.
Anyone else think this would be useful?

Kramnik and Guinness Book of Records by
ian burton
Though I take a back seat to no one in my admiration for Kramnik, I'm
puzzled by this paragraph from his new, official website.
*****
The list of his victories is long, very long. He has already finished all
major tournaments in the world as the victor. His six-time success in
Dortmund surely stands out. And he holds a record, included in the Guinness
Book of Records, which has made sporting...

Calculating Performance Rating vs Unrateds by
My name is Mac, not Spam
The quick back-of-the-envelope method for calculating the performance rating
(pr) of a player in a single event is to add add up the ratings of all
opponents, then add an additional 400 for each win and subtract 400 for each
loss, and then finally divide by the number of opponents faced. Right?
So for instance:
A player in a tournament with these results...
W1016 L1166 W1010 D1305...

Leave it to the public by
Wlodzimierz Holsztynski
The fighting draws are great, no sane
chess lover objects to exciting games,
then it doesn't matter what is their
outcome.
On ther other hand, the public pays for
the tickets (or in whatever way). Then
they waste their time watching a meaningless
draw, devoid of any tension, of any struggle.
It is just not fair.

In Memoriam - Grandmaster Konstantin Nicholaevich Aseev by
Chess One
With great sadness I must report that GM Konstantin Nicholaevich Aseev has
died in St Petersburg, August 22nd 2004, at age 43, after a lasting illness.
For the last week I have been staring frozenly at perhaps his last piece of
writing, without being able to work on it, and rather dreading this
eventuality, a commissioned piece;- a game annotation of a loss to Valeri
Yandemirov in...

Chessmate Pocket Set by
Mrckb8179
Hi,
Has anybody used these? What do you think of them and what is the board made
of? Is it sturdy?
I've been thinking about picking one up, but they are pretty pricey and the
webpage doesn't say much.
Thanks!
