booklist for beginning juniors by
Elijah
Howdy!
I'll be teaching a once a week class of beginner junior chess players
(ages 4-12) and I wanted to come up with a optional booklist for them.
I thought I could put them on levels: read the books on this level
first and then go on to the next level, cycling thru tactits,
strategy, endgame, game collections, and openings.
I came up with a partial list, I wonder if anyone who has worked...

Etiquette at a Simul by
Bob Newell
I'll be one of 50 fish playing in a simultaneous exhibition given by an
international grandmaster in a litle over a week. I figure my
"strength" to be about 1400. I also figure I'm going to lose (duh) but
that it should be a memorable experience if nothing else.
Any tips as to etiquette? Obviously I want to be respectful of the
grandmaster while still participating. At what point do I...

Question regarding blindfold chess by
z
Hi,
I'm a beginner trying to improve my blindfold chess ability.
I have tried to play blindfold once, but with no sucess. Then I read
in this newsgroups that the first thing is to learn by heart the color
of each square as well as the possible knight and bishop moves from
each square. I did exactly so, but I do not see any effect on my
blindfold playing abilities.

Suggestion on helping a chess club. by
Duncan
I have been asked to help out a grade school chess club. I'm not a very good
player myself. However, I'm told that the kids just need someone to help
with the basics, organise, and maybe explain some slightly beyond basics
things (I'm thinking opening objectives and tactical considerations).
Does anyone have suggestions on how I can help them out? Web site addresses
on how to run a chess club...

Problem with FRC playing Arena by
Stefek Borkowski
Hi,
I have just tried to play Fischer Random using Arena interface and a couple
of engines - installed by default and the newst version of Baron.
Interestingly after a couple of moves the game is broken by Arena with a
note: "Arena Adjudication: Invalid move" ?! which is completely
ununderstandable, as it happens most often after I make a simple move like
d2-d4 with a pawn. What seems to be...

Chessbase.com Takes Major Credibility Hit by
Graeme
chessbase.com, makers of the Chess Base database software and other
products, has a bizarre opinion piece on their website.
In the middle of a page of otherwise objective news reporting about
the Fischer story (http://chessbase.com/newsdetail.asp?newsid=1852),
there's a plea from one Susan Grumer to George Bush, asking him to
pardon Fischer on the grounds that... (you're not going to...

Spence Limited Edition Tournament Books from the 1950's?? by
michael atkins
Sometime in the mid-a950's, Jack Spence produced a series of Limited
Edition tournament books. These were handset, typed, and bound with
plastic rings on the side. There seemed to be about 100-150 copies of
each book, which were numbered in the limited edition series.
I've come across about ten of them and am currently auctioning 2 on
ebay to ascertain their worth. Does anyone out there know how...

Anyone willing to donate USCF membership to Active Duty military? by
Russ Chewning a.k.a. Pogue
Hi everyone,
I am trying to get a club started on Camp As Saliyah, Qatar, and I
am willing to pay the club fees and whatnot, but I have played a lot
of the soldiers out here, and they are not confident enough to think
they should join the USCF and play rated games.
Would anyone be willing to donate the money to pay for the first
year for a military personnel's USCF membership. I am planning...

On ebay: 1940s-50s Collectible plastic set by
smudgie
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=5918461960&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT
It's usually the same old Ganine Gothic sets or Renaissance sets or
recent el cheapo sets, but here's a good one. It's a Varsity plastic
set from the '40s or '50s. You can see another example in the House of
Staunton's museum section, under American Nostaligia sets.

Database in Fritz question by
Bark!
Is there any way I could sort the games in my fritz database by date? If I
add a game (and date) that was played sooner then the rest, it is still
appended at the end of a database.
Thanx
