Subject for Bio by
Jeremy Spinrad
The suggestion of Preston Ware is a good one, but will have to wait until I can
get copies of the books of the relevant American Congresses. In the meanwhile, I
did a little research on the player James Mortimer, whose life was somewhat more
public than Ware's (except perhaps for Ware's brief notoriety in 1880); a brief
piece on Mortimer will appear in my next post.

It says on site that GM Michael Adams is from England but how come
they are using a different country's flag:

Subject for a brief bio? by
Jeremy Spinrad
As some of you know, I enjoy writing brief biographies of players, preferably
from the mid-19th century. It is a good time for me to write now; just back
from a productive trip, with some summer break still left. My last such attempt
was on a player I had never heard of (Isaac Trabue) proposed by Anders Thulin in
this newsgroup. Since I enjoyed the subject last time, does anyone have a new
person...

July 21 Fischer chronicles by
Miriling
Here's what Bobby Fischer was doing on July 21 in various years of his career:
July 21, 1955: Fischer loses on time to Viktors Pupols in the 7th round of the
U.S. Junior Championship in Lincoln, Nebraska
July 21, 1956: Rest day at U.S. Open in Oklahoma City, Okla. Fischer's score
after 5 rounds: 3.5-1.5 (two wins, three draws). Draws Anthony Santasiere in
6th round on July 22.

Bobby World Chess Champion Robert J. Fischer by
Mogath3
I have a better idea. Let's pay the Japanese government to keep him over
there, preferably forever.
I would second that one for sure. I'd still like to know when he beat Karpov or
Kasparov that made him world champion to the present day? News to me..

Israeli's Banned From World Chess Championships !! by
Jerome Bibuld
Heil Dubya!
ROTFLMAO! So, in the hypocritical words of "Isidor Gunsberg", " ... Cubans,
Iranians, (North?) Koreans competitors were barred for political reasons,
because of the difficult relations that the US has with the respective
governments ... " while "Jewish players were barred from entry into
Libya because of sheer bigotry."
I get an unhappy kick out of these Europeans (including the...

R Fischer has appealed against deportation to the US by
banana
Latest news - the Japanese authorities have indicated they want to
deport Bobby Fischer to the US, and he has appealed against their
decision.
Note that there has been no official talk of extradition. I believe this
is because the US government wouldn't have a hope in hell of extraditing
him, therefore they simply want the Japanese authorities to hand the
prisoner over to US authorities to be...

GM Evans on CNN by
Parrthenon
Some of us hope that Larry Evans will say Bobby Fischer is not a criminal and
that if anyone deserves to sit in a jail cell it would be those responsible for
locking him up.

Was Kasparov Rated Higher Than Bobby? Could Bobby Have Beaten Him? by
EWOH27
Due to natural patriotism, I would give Fischer the slight edge.
Well, I usually can understand backing fellow countrymen, but not when that
countryman is an embarrassment. I have no feelings of patriotism regarding
Bobby Fischer, anti-semite, public celebrator of the 9/11 attacks, and now
former fugitive.

The legalities of Fischers Arrest: analysis by
raylopez99
I'm not an international or immigration lawyer, but I may play one on
TV... with that disclaimer, here is my take on the Fischer story.
From what I understand, the following is all true:
1) You can violate a UN sanction and not violate US law
2) You violate a US law and not a UN sanction
