Alter ego by
Alan OBrien
How do you pronounce alter ego?
Up until about 10 years ago I said the first word exactly the same as the
English word 'alter'.
Now I say alter as in German - but am I being pretentious?

Work like the ponies in coalmines.
Dance like the teardrop explodes.
Love like you're Frank in Blue Velvet.
Sing as though your little throat would burst.

Chronos clock problem by
Mark Finn
I have one of the new Chronos clocks with the touch-sensitive buttons.
The other day I noticed both sides blanking out periodically (and the
clock would have to be re-set). This only happened when it was being
used on a certain table in the room. It turns out that this table is
next to (at table height) a power bar containing several plugs for
computers etc.
Is it possible that something like...

Will Bauer replace Hanke as VP of Finance? by
Sam Sloan
Will Bauer replace Hanke as VP of Finance?
Randy Bauer has just been elected to the USCF Executive Board and will
take office next month. Bauer is the Budget Director of the State of
Iowa and is eminently well qualified to be the USCF VP of Finance. He
is also a master chess player.
Tim Hanke is the current VP of Finance. He has no qualifications for
the job. He got the position by being the...

Knight's Tour Variant Solver? by
Curious
Hi list,
Does anyone know of a utility that can solve specific knights tour
problems? For instance a Knight's Tour problem that dictates that
after a certain number of moves you must be on a certain square?
I am trying to solve a problem whereby you start in the top right
corner of the board and you are given 5 points that you much arrive at
after a certain number of moves, and in that order...

Hello ,

wooden clock based on a
broad stable foot ; geometrically it is shaped rather "roundly" -
without 90-degrees-angles).

re. R Fischer -any relevant provns in Japan-US extradition pact?? by
banana
Am I right in thinking that the Japan-US extradition treaty of 1980
stipulates that extradition from one country to the other is only
possible when a person is accused of something that is a crime in both
countries, and that carries at least a one-year prison sentence?
If this is so, was it a crime under Japanese law for a Japanese citizen
to play chess for prize money in Serbia in 1992, even...

Lev Khariton: Bobby, we are with you! by
Aryeh Davidoff
Bobby, we are with you!
By Lev Khariton
On receiving the sad news about Bobby Fischer’s detention at the
Tokyo airport I was shocked. But I was not surprised.Bobby has been
targeted for years, and if anyone is to blame for all that happened
two days ago, it is unquestionably and primarily us, the chess
players. We have remained passive and indifferent to the destiny of
the man who...
