I have just spoken to Tokyo and confirmed that Bobby Fischer is in
jail at Narita Airport, Tokyo, Japan.
I just hung up the phone after speaking to my good friend, the Dali Lamma.
He said that Fischer was detained on a mere technicality, because his U.S.
passport had been revoked.

Stop the Moral Equivalence
Suicide-bombing and hostage-taking vs. democracy
BY GARRY KASPAROV

It is said that to win a battle you must be the one to choose the
battleground. Since the Abu Ghraib abuses were revealed, the battleground
has been chosen by those who would blur the lines between...

Who will be the sponser by
Eopithecus
If they couldn't in the past find sponsership for a Shirov-Kasparov
Match, who in the world would even consider sponsering a match between
Khasimzdhanov-Kasparov. Corporations aren't going to be beating down
the door for this one. I for one woiuldn't take bets on the match even
being held. Kasparov will go strait to the winner of Kramnik-Leko.

chess tournament question about Homeschooled students by
Lucy Jones
Hello,
I am a chess parent and my daughter played in the US National
Elementary chess championships in Pittsburgh.
I am writing to inquire about what the rules are regarding
homeschooled chess players. What school team can chess student who
are homeschooled join?
One of the parents at the tournament had told me that there was a
school from Maryland who has students that were homeschooled from

Adams proves why garbage openings ruin title chances by
PeteCasso
Overall, I got the impression that K was playing the half hour chess game as
a half hour chess game, i.e. tailored to reality, whereas A was trying to
play the half hour chess game as a classical chess game, i.e. not tailored
to reality.
Therefore, A had a winning position and would have certainly won under
regular time control. But K got practical chances that A did not take into
account in his...

Audience or the lack of it, ouch! by
PeteCasso
There are more players and officials in the WCC in Libya than people in the
audience. A picture on the Chessbase web site shows a mere four individuals
in the audience. No wonder that there is a lack of sponsors too!
I wonder if the organizers track the size of the off-site audience who watch
the games via the Internet. I don't see any numbers published in this
regard. Or is the size of the...

Math and Chess Connection by
Frank Ho
I have written some math workbooks. One of them is a collection of
mathematical chess puzzles, math puzzles, and word problems. I believe my
idea of creating mathematical chess puzzles for elementary students will be
helpful to students.
