Patriotism, nationalism, chauvinism by
Wlodzimierz Holsztynski
Preface: I had written a long article along the
lines below in 1980 but it got... censored.
I've published a short verion of it some
twelve to sixteen years later in an emag
"Spojrzenia". I like a good usage of words,
so that words are not wasted.

Bobby World Chess Champion Robert J. Fischer by

Whilst presumably not mentioning all the chess books the USCF bought
in Serbia.
That's a good point.
How did the USCF continue to import Yugoslav chess books (such as Informants)
during the period of United States economic sanctions against Yugoslavia?

Fisher by
Curt Seefeldt
Who cares!
Almost everyone knows that Fisher is two kiwis short of a fruit basket. Re
his chess, and the hoopla about it, think about Alekhine. His chess skills
were as spectacular as far as I am concerned, yet no one here seems to spend
that much time over his views or activities outside of chess. But,
Fisher...oh yeah...Never mind that his views over certain ethnic groups are
no more out of...

Photograph from New York 1924 by
Mark J. Finegold
In Edward Winter's Chess Notes No. 3351, accessible at
http://www.chesscafe.com/winter/winter.htm, there is a group
photograph of the players from New York 1924. Winter says, "Any
reader who thinks that we are merely reproducing a famous shot is
invited to look more closely."
I have looked more closely but I don't see anything. What's the joke?
Sincerely,

The very 1st year of the new (pipeline) championship system by
Wlodzimierz Holsztynski
The new system can be introduced smoothly
already in 2005. That year would not
inherit a cycle from the previous 2004y,
so instead the top rated 16 players
would be treated like they have qualified
to the 5th stage. They would play 8 matches
in January of 2005. That would be the 5th stage
of the advanced cycle. The 8 losers would join
the remaining 216 top rated players, so that
a total of...

Kevin Bachler helps downfall of USCF by
buh bye
It would be interesting to see the list of those who have taken his
crazy counsel. Hubris, arrogance, unwillingness to see other points
of view, he'd make an excellent Bush operative in addition to his odd
USCF views which have hurt the USCF when the USCF is already down.

Can't figure out whose turn is it. by
Few Good Chessmen
How could one derive whose turn to move legally based on a give
position that had developed and there weren't any record kept. Are
there guidelines on this?
So far I can conclude one observation if the oppoent's King is in
Check then it must be his turn. What else can we use to claim the
rights for next move under such circumstance?
Thanks to all answered to my earlier thread: Books on end games

Fischer was arrested on way to radio talkshow in Baguio by
banana
As I suspected, Bobby Fischer was grabbed at Narita airport in Tokyo
when he was on his way to Baguio in the Philippines to take part in a
radio talk show.
I wonder how widely this will be reported.

Garry Kasparov's Diary by
Jon Levitt
Hi folks,
A new diary entry has just been posted at chesschamps:
http://www.chesschamps.com/gkdiary.shtml
Garry discusses his view that Fischer's personality was not strong enough to
carry the burden of being the chess Messiah.
Cheers,

Following to a news that Japanese bootlickers of American imperialists have
commited a grave crime and detain Bobby Fischer World Chess Champion 1972 -

Bobby Fischer is the greatest and he is playing today by

..
I said "half the contenders were ex- or soon-to-be World Champions" - you
are the one who introduced "opponents".
There were 12 contenders.
Ex- world champions: Tal, Petrosian, Smyslov, Bronstein*, Reshevsky**
Soon-to-be world champion: Fischer, Korchnoi***
That is 6 out of 12 which is half.
So my statement about the 1970 Herceg Novi participants, that "half the
contenders were ex-...
