Dreev ko'ed! by PeteCasso
BIG upset! Heck, why is it so quiet here? I would have thought that there would at least be some postings discussing the Libyan games!

Ugh! by PeteCasso
Radjabov overpressed and almost lost (round 4, first rapid game), but he pulled off a small miracle and drew ... I'm curious what he will pull off in the next game, soon to be begin ..

Lev Khariton: Milov is suing FIDE?! by Aryeh Davidoff
Lev Khariton: Milov is suing FIDE?! This is Vadim Milov’s letter published at the site of ACP (Association of Chess Professionals) on Jun 26th) “Dear chess colleagues, Although I signed the contract and agreed to play in the World Championship in Libya, I was excluded from this tournament only because of my possession of the Israeli passport. Fide has done everything possible for me...

Bobby Fischer is the greatest and he is playing today by EWOH27
Smyslov was past his prime by then. Ostojic was an IM (not GM) if I remember correctly, and I'm not sure about Ivkov. I don't think I agree about Smyslov. He continued to play WC-class chess until the 80's, making it to the candidates semifinals once during that decade. Ivkov was a GM, though not generally considered a WC contender.

Bobby Fischer is the greatest and he is playing today by byrne
Fischer's chess teacher Jack Collins says: How strong was Bobby? I remember the 1966-67 New Year's Eve party at our home. At the time Bobby was competing in and winning his final U. S. Championship. Several grandmasters were present, and there was plenty of eating and drinking. By 2 a. m. Bobby wanted to play some chess, and he had in mind a certain strong international master. But Bobby had...

Bobby Fischer is the greatest and he is playing today by NoMoreChess
.. Note well how "Max Bluster-man" not-so-cleverly snipped the request for "evidence, please" from his reply, so as to disguise the fact that he is unable to produce any such evidence.

Bobby Fischer is the greatest and he is playing today by NoMoreChess
.. The clueless imbecile who now calls himself "Max" blustered: Bobby's documented performance rating at Herceg Novi, a blitz tournament, must have been about 3200 ELO (using the other participants' FIDE ratings). That is 3200 ELO, not ICC, schmuck. Such a bloated performance rating is quite impossible, given that 3200 minus

When did the roll-up board and plastic pieces become standard in USCF events? What was common before that? Cheap folding boards? Wooden boards? Wooden pieces? What about in other parts of the world? M Man

Fantastic Game by Kozul in Libya by PeteCasso
A Knight and exchange sacrifice for positional pressure with a rook down, gradually converted the positional pressure into a pair of connected passed pawns and to further win the game with great tactics. Second to none, of equal caliber to Kasparov's best games, fantastic !!! Most interesting, however, I've never heard the name Kozul before !!! Will he be another Ponomariov?

Reforming FIDE? by Parrthenon
"As all tyrants must, Ilyumzhinov will fall. Sanctuary in Libya, maybe? What will happen to FIDE after his departure is anybody's guess. The first thing that must be abolished is the hideous Medical Commission." -- GM Larry Evans The USCF has acted strongly within FIDE on only one occasion: the Paris Congress of 1995. In a single session we rid ourselves of Campo and embraced the unknown (now...

Radjabov and Nisipeanu advance to Round 4 by PeteCasso
Radjabov won in a great way ... perhaps these rapid games are valuable after all, at least some of them! Grishuk, Dreev, and Aronian will be playing blitz games, what a terrible way to decide world championship games!

Chess Exam and Training Guide: Tip #7 by Igor K
Successful chess training consists of two parts: an accurate evaluation to identify your current level and immediate needs and subsequent design of an appropriate training plan that is well structured and includes the list of suitable books and training software. In my upcoming book Chess Exam and Training Guide (http://www.ChessExam.com) I attempt to tackle both. Beginning May 13, for the...

Fischer's Most Sensational Victory?? by Sam Sloan
Fischer's Most Sensational Victory?? When we hear about sensational victories by Bobby Fischer we almost always hear about his victories over the Byrne Brothers or about his victories over Boris Spassky. However, Fischer had another victory which was at the time regarded as even more sensational. That was his game in 1958 when Fischer was only 14 where he won Reshevsky's queen in just 12...
