Creating chess diagrams in Word documents by
Shawn B. Wikle
This seems like a pretty elementary question, but I can't find an
answer to it. How do you go about creating chess diagrams in a Word
document? I'd like to write some notes to kind of build a little Word
"database" about games I've seen or played, or positions in books that
were particularly interesting to me. I have some database software,
so this isn't exactly what I'm after..... I'd like to...

Tony Rook & Chess FM Radio ?? by
Richard Van Riper
What has happened to the Chess FM website that Tony Rook DJ'd from?
It hasn't updated most of it's material, such as tutorial's by GM's since
early February?
Is it just another "dot.com" idea gone bad?

Best Book on the openings Recommendation by
jm
I am about 1800, online, anyway, close to that OTB. I have memorized
openings, names, variations for years. I do have basic understanding
of why I am doing a certain opening.
Should I get a basic openings book or specialize? I would still like
to know EVERY reason why I am doing something.

Obituary to a brilliant player you probably never knew by
Gregory Topov
The SR Chess world recently mourned the passing of Mikhail Seignovich, at
aged 74, the only surviving son of legendary GM Victor Seignovich. In
tribute to Mikhail, here follows an obituary of his father, clearly a
shining star in the history of SR Chess players.
The relatively unknown Russian champion Victor E. Seignovich (1909-1931) had
a brilliant but very brief career. After a tremendous...

200 Open Games of Chess by David Bronstein by
wthyde@godzilla.acpub.duke.edu
(Sam Sloan) writes:
200 Open Games of Chess by David Bronstein.
This is a collection of 200 games all played by grandmaster David
Bronstein against various opponents.
In the arguments over Sam's claims, the title of this
thread has been neglected.

Copyrighting Of Chess Games by
David Richerby
Ray Gordon wrote:
David Richerby wrote:
I'm not familiar with the case but Chessbase were almost certainly
asserting copyright in the compilation of the games rather than the games
themselves. This is a very different thing as Chessbase had put their
`creative efforts' into collecting together the set of games.
I still think...

Lev Khariton:Kasparov as Russia's President in 2008? by

Kasparov as Russia's President in 2008?
On the eve of the presidential elections in Russia Garry Kasparov
published an article in Wall Street Journal. This newspaper since long
has become for Kasparov a good means of expressing what he finds to be
gospel truth.
In this article Kasparov once again enlightens the West about the
tragic situation in today’s Russia: Putin has...

Jude Acers, Bobby Fischer, and Walter Browne by
ian burton
The following sentence appears in an ad for Jude Acers' recent book, "The
Italian Gambit System."
"This World famous New Orleans Chess Master has the unique distinction, in
his long and venerable career, of being the only match player to face both
Bobby Fischer (Baton Rouge, 1964) and Walter Browne, six time U.S. Champion
(Baton Rouge 1967 and Berkeley 1970)"
Did Acers indeed play *matches*...

Bragging Rights? by
Sam Sloan
My son has just posted a website where he brags that he is ranked
number 9029 in the world.
Is this something to brag about, or has this brought on shame to the
family?

Feb 2004 Golden Database by
Matt Nemmers
In the Member's Area of the USCF's website, you can download the rating
supplements. This is usually a very handy tool, but when I downloaded the
32MB February 2004 Golden Database and replaced my previous files with what
was contained in the zip, all I get when I try to look people up is a bunch
on non-sensical numbers.
Is there going to be a fix put online soon?
Regards,
