chess game mail by
Mattia
Hi!
I play chess on the net very often (on server FICS). Sometimes the
server sends me the scores of my games by email (in a standard PGN
format), so I have to save the message as a text file and then open it
with another program.
Is there a way to make a mail FILTER that automatically saves messages
with certain rules?
This would be of much help!!

The Chess by
PJDBAD
One of the first printed books in English (William Caxton) was a chess book.
Does any one know of a place where I can read it on line. Has it been updated
into modern English? I was holding my breath waiting for the algebraic
edition--like that's going to happen.
I'm researching this myself (for those who meet requests for information with a
"go get it yourself, you lazy ass) and what...

Kramnik: Boring chess or better chess? (super GM-chess after Linares 2004) by
Gregory Topov
In checking some of the Linares games this week I did notice that lots of
kibitzers called Kramnik boring. Here's a link to an interesting interview
with Kramnik:
http://www.chessbase.com/newsdetail.asp?newsid=1322
An important quote from it:
"The more we analyse with computers, the more we believe in defence. I was
the first to display this clearly, particularly in my games against
Kasparov....

A study plan,... by
Rrb828
A study plan:
Oh, the eternal question,..."What aspects of the game should I study that will
be the most effective use of my time?" I know, it's different for everyone, and
'experts' always caveat their response to this question similarly. However,
I've been playing for about 4-years, on-and-off, and would like to really build
upon the loose-amalgam of knowledge I already possess. I'm...

Irish pawn center by
Christoph P_f_rommer
While reading over Nigel Short's comments at the Telegraph
(http://www.telegraph.co.uk/arts/main.jhtml?view=CHESSCONTENT&grid=P8&RangeStartValue=1&master=nigel_short)
I noticed the term "Irish pawn center". Short uses this expression to
characterize the (unfavourable) black pawn formation with tripled pawns.
So please allow for the questions: What exactly is defining an "Irish
pawn center", and...

Chess puzzle by
Andrew Bull
Andrew Bull wrote in message ...
This puzzle occurred to me the other day, though I doubt it's new; and I'm
not sure if it's trivial, unsolvable or somewhere in between, but here
goes:
Two players alternately place a chess piece (from the standard set of 32)
onto a chess board. The position must always be legal (or able to be made
legal by adding the missing king(s) to (a) suitable...

WARNING! Avalar is a Misleading Chess Company! They're NOT the C.A.T. by
gmaster
Greetings all! AVALAR IS NOT THE C.A.T.
I don't know who Avalar is, but somehow they've esablished
a link on google as the Chess Artifacts Terminal. They are not!
They've taken my usenet letter of introduction and plagiarized
(stole)
my humble note of greetings to the chess community,
and used it as a link thru google to get to sell you a load
of e-commerce promotional garbage for a cheap ass...

Anna Hahn is Out !! by
Sam Sloan
Anna Hahn is Out !!
It appears that the Anna Hahn controversy has concluded in a
surprising way. In order to play on the US Woman's Olympic Team or in
the US Championship, one must play 21 games within the past year. Anna
Hahn has only played three rated games in the past year.
(Incidentally, she lost all three games.) Also, the final deadline has
passed. Thus, Anna Hahn is not eligible to...

Favourite players who weren't top 10 players by
Alan O'Brien
We all have favourite players - and I suppose most of those players were at
some point in the world top 10.
I bet one of the most admired players who wasn't in the top 10 is Rashid
Nezhmetdinov.
Anyone have any others?
One of my favourites is Glenn Flear.

The Pirc - Wjy?? by
Neil Coward
Why do people play the Pirc?
It seems very easy to get in e4 d4 f4 then push e5 hitting the knight. You
get e5 as a strong point, backed up by a knight in f3 then you castle and
you have a locked centre, and e5 strongpoint, you are in no danger and you
can hack away at the kingside.
The pirc seems to present white with no problems at all. So why do people
play it? why not just resign on move 1...

200 Open Games of Chess by David Bronstein by
Tapio Huuhka
Sam forgets to mention, that the 24th game was drawn after Botvinnik's offer.
Botvinnik was "a pawn up in a better position" -- just quoting Bronstein in Chess
Improviser. The conspiracy theorists always remember to mention the 6th and the
23rd game, but the 24th game doesn't seem to fit in these theories.

Gata Kamsky to run for President of FIDE !!!!
LONG ISLAND, NEW YORK March 18, 2004: Speaking at their palatial
estate in Long Island, New York, Roustam Kamsky revealed that his son
Gata Kamsky wants to run for president of FIDE, the World Chess
Federation.
This is sensational news for the world of chess, because Grandmaster
Kamsky has not been seen or heard from almost since 1996 when he lost

Help translating Chess and Shooting article by

Could someone translate for me the following article, found in Der Humorist

Schiessen nach einem numerirten Schachbrette, gab mir Veranlassung zur
