chessanytime.com? by
Gregory Topov
Does anyone have any experience with or comments about chessanytime.com? It
appears to be a free internet chess server similar to FICS, although not as
well populated.

Kramnik's Undeserved Reputation by
Ian Hurley
Watching Linares, I noticed a steady stream of comments about how boring
Kramnik is, about how he only draws, never plays exciting lines etc etc. But
when you look closely, so far in this tournament, Kramnik has:
Tried out a whole new opening repertoire.
Really pressed Kasparov with the Black pieces Round 5.
Uncorked a superb novelty against Topalov in Round 7 and crushed him.
Again introduced a...

chess games multimedia files by
Mori
Hello chessamtes,
Trying to find some multimedia files (avi, mpeg, quicktime, etc) of
some of the international chess games that have been played by players
like Kramnik & Kasparov (I don't mean the moves but the actual
tournament photage).
Could not find any in eMule.
Any suggestion on where to find such files on the Internet will be
appreciated.
Many thanks,
Shengi Mori

Run Files by
JPPLAY
I downloaded two files that I thought were games of Bobby Ficher from
http://www.pitt.edu/~schach/ I want to run them but I don't know what
program to run them with. The file formates are DIM, BIC, BGM, BDY, VWR,
NDX, BMA, DSC. I got this from the file fis60-ca.zip. Any one know how I can
take a look at them?

Has anyone ever seen this book? by
Jeremy Spinrad
There is a 300 page book called "Life of Tassilo von Heydebrand und der Lasa",
written by W. Uhl. One library (University of Texas at Austin) is listed as
having the book. Has anyone ever seen this book, and are there any comments?
Many strong players from the pre-Steinitz era seem to lack a good biography,
though I believe there are obscure books about some of them. To me, Deschapelles

Why top GMs have so much trouble with top computers by
Al
Set diatribe on
Why do top GMs (Kramnik, Kasparov, Anand, etc.) have so much trouble
with the top computers? Because they have gotten soft. They are used
to playing only a one or two dozen games a year and out of those, less
than half are real games going past the opening (play 15 moves in
standard theory, offer draw, collect paycheck). When they face a
computer, they are scared because...

Fritz7 service pack question by
HarryPatt
Just reinstalled Fritz7 on my PC. Checked and found a service pack
(October2003) on Chessbase website. I d/loaded and installed it, rebooted and
my Fritz settings are now in German. How can I change these back to English?
Can I still play on the server that is available to Fritz users? At the moment
the server seems to be down.
Thanks
Harry

We've been over this before. The moves of the games (or positions),
even with mention of the players or the event, are not copyrightable.
