Chess puzzle (Crosspost from rec.puzzles) by DDEckerslyke
I found this on rec.puzzles and thought it might be an idea to cross post it to rgcm... "Andrew Bull" wrote in message ... This puzzle occurred to me the other day, though I doubt it's new; and I'm not sure if it's trivial, unsolvable or somewhere in between, but here goes: Two players alternately place a chess piece...

Game analysis by Leopold
I have just added the game J.R.Capablanca-A.Schroeder, New York 1914 with my analysis to my webpage http://amchesscoaching.com. It is my first attempt at annotating a master game. Please check it out and let me know what you think. Any constructive criticism is welcome. Leopold

200 Open Games of Chess by David Bronstein by Jerome Bibuld
Heil Dubya! This is the first time I have heard Keres -- one of the best-loved persons in the history of chess -- called a "Nazi collaborators" (sic) and/or "a former Nazi", but, of course, that's representative of Scam Spam. I'm waiting for him to paint Machgielis Euwe with the same lying brush. (Incidentally, where would Scam Spam have had chess professional Paul Keres play chess during the...

Morphy in Paris by John Townsend
Dear chess friends, The year is 1858, the "annus mirabilis" of Paul Morphy. After the Birmingham tournament, Morphy continued his correspondence with Staunton, writing letters from Paris with a view to arranging the match, which, in the event, was frustrated. In the two letters dated 6th and 8th October, Morphy was writing from the Cafe de la Regence. Can anyone, please, tell me with whom...

Taking Chess to the next level? by alabaster
I'm a decent chess player on a casual basis, but I know very little of strategy besides what my common sense and experience dictate. I think I have the mind for chess, and with the right education and motivation I could excel at it--how can I learn to become a better player? Can anyone recommend books, software program, self-teaching courses, etc. that can deepen my sense of strategy and...

Early Report on Blindfold Hazards by Jeremy Spinrad
I have found a very early article attributing Labourdonnais' death to the strains of playing blindfold. The article is in Der Humorist, March 19, 1841. The writer is not so knowledgeable, saying Philidor was the 1st to ever played blindfold. He says that Diderot and others warned Labourdonnais of the great risk he was taking, but he wouldn't listen. Shortly after, he had 3 (strokes?). He tried...

Kamsky article ?? by Flobby Bischer
I can not help but think the whole sam sloan and kamsky articles are completely fake. Sam sloan at age 40 married five or so times with 8 kids from one woman? Kamsky in a 'prestigious' law school but he never speaks? Ha, you have to speak in law school. The entire article on chessbase reeks of bull crap.

I'm sure it's been discussed but... by bhnews
I just finished "Bobby Fischer Goes To War". No new facts concerning Fischer, but I got to learn about all of that Iron Curtain stuff going on in the Spassky camp. Interesting reading. There are a few inaccuracies, but it captures the insanity of the match, and indeed the time in which it was played. Don't know if it's worth the hardcover price for a hardcore chess fan though, there's really no...

Sanctimonious? by Dan Pressnell
So why is it that this Jason guy comes in here, ****es everybody off, many people tell him off, and Benjamin Jordan suddenly jumps on me for being "overly polite" to Jason without saying one word to anybody else? Mr. Jordan, what is the reason my "overly polite" posts got "under your skin" when everybody else was hurling insults? Who is being sanctimonious here? (In case you consider this post...

How to score a grand master norm by Ole Noerskov
Could someone please point me to the place on FIDES site or anywhere else where it's explained how you score chess norms? It's so incredibly annoying that the people that report on chess seem to think that everyone knows about this. I've been following the Wijk an Zee tournament and in the reports it's stated that two players now already have scored a grand master norm in the c group. It seems...

Is Fritz 6 worth it? by R. Paul Martin
I saw a good price on Fritz 6. I know this is an old version, but I was wondering if it was worth buying for cheap? Is it a buggy version? How strong is the program in, say, 5 and 10 minute blitz and in a standard time game? I don't need it to go on line and play or anything like that, but I would like to know if it's a dog or not. My first ever, and so far only, chess software database purchase...

NetBlitz II by Gregory Topov
I just got an email today saying that NetBlitz II has been released. This is a peer-to-peer chess program, that enables playing another person directly over the internet with regular chess or bughouse. Net Blitz 1.0 was pretty decent, so with all the upgrades Net Blitz II is definitely worth checking out, especially for people looking for peer-to-peer software. Below follows the text of the...
