long lost chess article by Lee Davis
I know this is from left field but I thought I'd give it a whirl. I read a fictional article in a chess magazine, maybe 5 years ago, about a guy who had woke up one day and was "blessed" with having the ability to make the perfect chess move in every situation. He was unbeatable and would only lose when it was intentional so as to not blow his cover. Does anyone remember reading this? If so,...

USATx2 by Martin Wilber
I played in the Midwest team tournament on the weekend and noticed a column alongside the team score entitled USATx2. I am assuming that it is a tie-breaker value, but was wondering what anyone else knew about it's calculation, etc. For example, does it only look at the team score in a round or does it look at individual player's results. An old chess story by Jeremy Spinrad
I found the following entry in an old Austrian newspaper. Not that I believe everything I read, but I wonder if there is a story in it somewhere. Any guesses as to who/what it might be referring to? I don't know the professions of all the major chessplayers at the time, which might be useful in ferreting out the truth behind this. Anyone know how much 3500 Thaler would translate to in, say,...

celebrity chess by Ivan
They have celebrities playing poker on TV. Why don't they have them playing chess as well? or do some sort of reality show where people play chess in a tournament. that is a novel idea since nobody has ever played in a chess tournament before.

SCID windows - combining into one window? by Gregory Topov
SCID has all kinds of separate windows, eg the game/board window, a PGN window. All these separate windows complicate task switching, because it's difficult to bring up all the SCID windows at the same time. Is there any way to integrate or combine all the SCID windows into one separate window, so SCID shows up just once in the task bar? This will make task switching easier, so I can restore...

rgc[mp] laser diary. Corus. by Wlodzimierz Holsztynski
It is only Feb 10/11 right now, but the first great chess tournament of the year 2004 already feels like it has happened years ago. It brought a fine victory to Anand, who is the top **active** player in the world these days (or months). His results in classical chess are supported by his domination of the active chess. And still, the finish of the tournament made his result a bit less shiny. He...

Why Beginners Should Resign by PJDBAD
In friendly games, do what you want. If the game is still interesting, play on. BUT: 1. Resigning when you have no real chance of winning is the mark of a good sportsman. 2. The argument that you can't learn and improve by resigning doesn't hold water, because by resigning and resuming play with the same player or another, you are working on the part of the game where your difficulty lies. If...

How old his he ? Is he a millionaire ? Why was he so strange , it seems to me that if i won the Championship i would have wanted to defend it and try to keep it as long as i could . Why didn't he want to defend...
