Lev Khariton: FIDE Plan is another scam by
Aryeh Davidoff
Aryeh Davidoff: This is Lev Khariton's 200 Words at www.pakchess.com:
FIDE, like an ever-generous Santa Claus, has prepared a surprise gift
for chess fans. This is what we can read at www.chessbase.com as well
as some other sites:
The World Chess Federation has published its rules for its next world
championship cycle, consisting of qualifiers in four continents, a
128-player knock-out...

Q+P vs Q, BCE, CL by
Jud McCranie
I wrote a note in my old copy of BCE concerning Q + NP on the 7th vs Q
(diagram 1059 in the new edition). The note says that NP wins,
according to Chess Life, July 1985, page 48. However, it sure seems
to be a draw. I don't have easy access to old CL issues; did I
misinterpret something in that CL article?

Alex Dvorak
Do any of you like to play this opening? Have you found that black
gets winning chances?? I was just wondering because it seems like he
just sits around defending all the time.

Is playing computer chess any good? by
franco@grex
I have been trying to improve my chess playing ability. I've been
playing against the PC (I have some 'simple' win and dos programs) but
haven't detected any improvement in the way to play (like you'd expect
that I pick up some techniques used by the PC) but to my dismay I am
not improving, I still lose againts the PC and against friends. Why is
that? Is there a better way to use the PC chess...

Chessmaster 8000 bug? by
James Blakely
Hi:
I use Chessmaster 8000 and it has a peculiar issue that I'm trying to
determine if it is my system or the program itself.
When the program starts, it offers a "mate in one" puzzle. Every so often,
the board is set up like at the start of a game. All the pieces are at
their "home" positions. Therefore mate in one is not possible. It does
this once about every 10 times.

Chessmaster 9000 and 3D boards by
Marco
I am using Chessmaster 9000 but I'm not interested in
the 3D chessboards. Is it possible for me to remove the
file in which they are stored so that I can save disk
space? If so which file(s) should I delete?
Thanks,
Marco

Questions by
Philippe Gagne
A few questions I would like to ask readers, if I may:
A lot of sites out there offer chess by email with a graphical interface
(ie: redhotpawn.com, playchess.de, itsyourturn.com) Are there any sites out
there offering this service free of charge without limitation to users?
And, the sites that offer premium benefits with paid membership, is it
manditory for someone to pay at some point so...
