I seen a tournament set on Ebay........I was wondering if the clock is really
worth 100.00 like the guy says. New to the game......thinking of playing in a

Thanks in advance.

RIDICULOUS crossposting and how to STOP it by
Harold Buck
There are obviously many people on these groups who are clueless about
the purpose of the groups. The fundamental principle is that just
because it has something to do with chess DOES NOT mean that it should
be posted to every group that has to do with chess because "someone
there might be interested." Someone on these groups might be interested
in my chicken wings recipe, but that doesn't mean...

Can FIDE really rate players down to 1001 ?? by
Sam Sloan
Can FIDE really rate players down to 1001 ??
FIDE has had a plan since Istanbul 2000 to rate all players down to
1001. The traditional floor for FIDE rated players was 2205 for men
and 1905 for women, but that floor has since been dropped several
times.
I feel that it would be a wonderful thing for FIDE to rate players
down to 1001. For example, Europe and Asia have no class prizes for
chess...

#1 in the world? by
EZoto
Right now the way it looks you would have to say Anand is the best
player in the world right now. Man is he looking impressive.
Unfortunately a debacle for the NG since Dr. Jai will start posting
his garbage more often. Other than that Anand is coming into his own.
I don't think anyone can beat him in a match right now.

Kasparov Versus The Machine, Movie by
Ian Hurley
Having watched the movie, it seems to me that IBM imposed some very unusual
rules during the whole match. For example, Deep Blue was locked in a room,
with guards outside, and nobody (not even Kasparov or any representative of
his team) was allowed in. Why so secretive?
Having said that, the film makes much of IBM's failure to produce logs which
could prove Deep Blue's play in Game Two was it's...

Alekhine and the nazis by
Marco
In Paolo Maurensig's novel "The Lünenburg Variation" the claim
is made that during the second world war various articles of
a very strong pro-nazi and anti-semitic nature appeared in the
German press, signed by the world champion (Alekhine). Is this
true? If so, did Alekhine actually write those articles?
Thanks,
Marco

kid playing too fast by
Jud McCranie
How do you get a kid to play slower (and think more about their move)?
In my daughter's Kindergarten through 5th grade chess club, most of
the kids play very fast, my daughter included. She usually moves in
within 5 or 10 seconds. Next month she is playing in a game/30
tournament, and she needs to take much more time and think about her
moves.

Thanks Dan by
drummerman
I'd like to thank Dan Heisman for his very helpful program on
Chess.fm. It was targeted to the average player and was full of
useful information and insights. I always looked forward to recording
it, so I could listen to it during the week. I guess all good things
must come to an end. Thanks Dan.

Recommendations - chess videos for school chess club??? by
Mike
I need some help. I am in charge of a chess program at my daughters
school. We had our first meeting last week - great turnout. Playing
levels are all over the board. I ordered Yasser Sierawans dvd, PRO
CHESS. It came in today and after watching it for about an hour
realized that this will absolutely bore the heck out of the kids. I
found the production quality to be dated (1987) but still...

Chessmaster 9000 - The King a CPU hog? by
Gregory Topov
I find that whenever I am in the "Game Room" part of Chessmaster 9000, "The
King" engine hogs all my CPU. (in WinXP I can monitor this using the
"Processes" tab of Windows Task Manager). If I'm in any other part of
Chessmaster (unless playing a game of course), this doesn't happen. It's
understandable that it would do this if it's analyzing a game, but why
should the engine hog the CPU if I'm...

Aryeh Davidoff: Lev Khariton's 200 Words on Soviet Chess School
January 26th, 2004
About two years ago there was a heated discussion at
www.kasparovchess.com as regards the so-called Soviet Chess School.
Practically, all the analysts of this site (GM Sergey Shipov being, so
to speak, their ring-leader) were dead against me single-handedly
defending the view that the Soviet Chess School had never...

Need Tips in Teaching my 6yr son to play chess by
Marky Marc
I should be very glad that my son is showing sucha huge interest in
learning chess but I am a bit perplexed on how to each him at this
young age.
He knows how to set the board up for black and white. He has a great
memory. He knows how the pieces move although he can forget that a
piece can go long range. He forgets that the horse can go up 1 and
over 2 as much as it can go up 2 and over 1. It...
