Kasparov-Topalov WaZ 1999 by
Alan O'Brien
Does anyone else think that this famous game is overrated?
I think it has two really good moves in it - 24.Rxd4 and 37.Rd7 - but apart
from that it seems a little too one-sided to be a great game.
I prefer games where both sides have chances, like some of Kasparov's games
with Karpov.

Macintosh ICC/FICS client? by
Kirk McElhearn
Is there anything other than Fixation? I find the interface ugly, and
many of the pieces look alike, unless the board is tiny. Any
alternatives?

Soltis: The 100 Best Chess Games of the 20th Century by
Gregory Topov
I'm trying to obtain a ranked list (I don't need all the annotations - I
would buy the book for that) of the 100 games selected by Andrew Soltis in
his book "100 Best Chess Games of the 20th Century."
While a PGN file of the games would be absolutely fantastic, I'd be happy
with just any lead to help me find a list of the actual games he selected.
My intention is to compare Soltis' list with...

Has IM Silman "retired from tournament competition"? by
Miriling
According to IM Jack Peters in his latest column in the Los Angeles Times,
noted chess author IM Jeremy Silman claims he has retired from tournament
competition.
Can anyone confirm this claim by Silman?

We need a new voice by
buh bye
I remember back when Michael Greengard was such a great internet chess
writer. Then he tried to become a millionaire with Kaspy's web site,
then he mismanaged that thing into the ground, then his personality
took several turns for the worse, and then he sucked as an internet
chess writer. Sad really.
I've always enjoyed John Henderson's internet chess writing, and maybe
I'm just a malcontent,...

to take or not to take by
Silent Dragon
Does anyone know of any games were there were no captures made before
victory was achieved?
I'm not talking 2 or 3 move mates either, but games that made it past
the opening.

Poll: Best Ever Chess Games (BCM 1989) by
Gregory Topov
I read somewhere that in 1989, the BCM (The British Chess Magazine) took a
poll of their readers, asking
what the best chess games ever played were. Are the results of this poll
available on the web somewhere? (I've searched but only been able to find
their top five.)
I realize that there are books with such collections available, but these
are generally selected by individuals (the one by...

Logical Chess by Irving Chernev (available as PGN)??? by
Dr. David Kirkby
I have bought the book "Logical Chess - Move by Move" by Irving
Chernev, which explains the moves in 33 different games. Does anyone
have these games in PGN format - preferably with the annotations, but
without will do?
I found game #3 (see below) at
http://www.logicalchess.com/resources/lc/logical01parent.html
(quite why its called game #1, when its 3 in the book I don't know),
but I'd like to...

Game Over (chess movie) by
skoonj
If anyone's curious, an article at The Guardian has an article about a
Kasparov-Deep Blue 1997 documentary (though about half of it is just about
the filmmaker).
IMO, it makes the filmmaker look like an idiot, though perhaps it's really
the reporter who's the idiot.

Staunton - St Amant by
John Hutchison
Hoping someone here can help me.
I've been doing a manual cleanup of my database, and I've found that I've
got two entries for Round 17 of the Paris match between Staunton and St
Amant. The final position is identical, and the rest of the details are
pretty much identical. The only problem is that the opening moves are
transposed.

help with 3 min! by
Flobby Bischer
I do ok with 1 min games or with standard.
But for some reason I can't seem to play 3 min games...Here's what happens:
1.) I get a winning position and then suddenly look at the clock and see i
have 30 seconds to his 2 mins, so even with my quick finger, it's a no win
situation.
2.) I play fast and have 2 mins to his 1 and have pressure or initiative
then i start hanging pieces and lose on...

Why has my USCF quick rating changed? by
Patrick Cairpre
I haven't played a "quick" game in 4 years, but my qc rating has
changed dramaticly. Why is that?
I really already know why. Not sure who at USCF was resposible for
this.
I would like all quick ratings either abolished or returned to a
pre-meddling state.
Are there plans to address this?

Any Truth to Fischer's Claims That High Level Games Are Fixed???????????? by
Dr. Slick
Hello,
I'm a total novice, really, but i'd like to know what some more
knowledgable people think about this.
I can understand the point about strategically offering draws during
the competition. And i understand that the first 30-40 moves are pretty
much very well known. But after that, both players would have to agree on
what should happen and how...there are just way too many variations, it...

There are some mines hidden under the board.
If you hit a mine, you will explode and lose.
Will make chess more entertaining.

Hi,
Having visited some internet chess sites based on some discussions

It seems that all the chess servers are located in the USA.
Chess is a typical Western game.
