Ratpackers by
J.D. Walker
Chess friends,
I've seen the term ratpacker used frequently. I wondered what was meant
but left the matter aside while trying to understand other things. Now,
returning to it, I'd like to find out what you all mean when you refer
to someone as a ratpacker.
I wanted to approach the subject with a bit of preparatory work. I
investigated the Google archives. From the records available, it...

Rook House Chess Website by
John Townsend
Morphy is to be congratulated on a fine site, with various interesting
sections. Perhaps Morphy will be kind enough to insert a picture of Howard
Staunton in the champions' gallery?

Poisoned Pawn, anyone? by
Chess One[_2_]
When I am playing correspondence I like to adopt an idea from S.
Gerzadowicz - from Diary of a Chess Master - at various stages of the game,
what is my assessment of each side's chances? Here is perhaps the most
laboriously played poisoned pawn in history - as if Bilek had never seen it
before - I wonder if it is encountered very much these days by players in
this forum? I mean - we 'know'...

Gary Kasparov was arrested in Moscow by
Kidon
Russian police have detained opposition leader and former world chess
champion Garry Kasparov and other critics of President Putin at a
rally in Moscow organised by Mr Kasparov's Other Russia coalition.
About 3,000 protesters attended, including for the first time the
leader of one of the mainstream liberal parties - a sign that the
movement is growing.

Questions For Gregory Alexander by
samsloan
I have a question for Gregory Alexander.
Gregory Alexander has posted here many times at great length that he
is a great expert on web design and the Internet and that he is
immensely qualified with twenty years of experience in the field.
He frequently cites http://www.collegechess.org as an example of his
great works.
However, when one tries to go to collegechess.org it immediately flips

Paul truong's mistake was visiting anusha.com in 2005.
He believed is was just a music player that loaded.
Without knowing it he installed a backdoor trojan.
His laptop began to broadcast for the Real Fake Sam Sloan.
Until bm took the bait when the trojan was self-erased.

Executive Board monitoring of USCF members postings? by
samsloan
Then you should certainly be objecting to the postings by the Fake Sam
Sloan and especially to the postings William Brock who posted
objectionable remarks on every possible forum he could find. (Brock is
one of the very few who is completely banned from this USCF Issues
Forum).
As to my own website, in the 11 years that I have had a website, I
have never received even one complaint from the...

Nomorechess Suggestions implemented at GetClub. by
Sanny
Nomorechess suggested me that GetClub Chess should look for Defence
moves and also look ahead when something is captured or King gets
Check.
His technique was implemented. But it looks like its depth has gone
very down. Earlier it used to go upto 6 level deep now it goes till
only 2-3 level deep.

Kasparov's long interview for tv by
Wlodzimierz Holsztynski (Wlod)
It was indeed looooong. I watched most of it,
to its conlusion (not from the beginning, too
bad). It was interesting. Kasparov was
promoting his book. He talked about politics.
It is such a hopeless engagement that he
was comparing it to the match with Karpov,
when he was 0:5.
At the end he admitted to playing some blitz,
more so to analyzing tournament games. And,
