Fine vs Reshevsky 1986 by drummerman
On August 10, 1986 at the opening ceremonies for the U.S. Chess Hall of Fame, there was a game arranged between Ruben Fine and Sam Reshevsky. Does anyone recall the outcome of this historic encounter?

Chess Life by Parrthenon
THE NEW EDITOR By Larry Parr Despite all the unfounded attacks on Kalev Pehme before he even began editing the January 2004 issue of Chess Life (which was twice the size of the one in December) I see no reason to criticize his performance so far. As a matter of fact, the USCF website says that the February issue featuring Kasparov on the cover ("he goes deeper into the matrix") will be mailed...

Fischer's Encounter with Hoffman at the Manhattan Chess Club by Joel V. Benjamin
Does anyone have first-hand, or even accurate second-hand, knowledge of Bobby Fischer's encounter with Asa Hoffman at the Manhattan Chess Club? I was there and remember it very well - I've read other accounts that differ from my recollection in several respects. Fischer gave Hoffman 20-1 odds at blitz. I don't remember if there were any time odds given by Fischer. Hoffman won the first game...

Suggestion for Crafty by DDEckerslyke
I did post a variation on this suggestion a while ago and received one reply but I couldn't get it to work so here goes again: I use Crafty as an opponent in endgames (eg KNNvKP from Silman's 'Essential Chess Endings'). Unfortunately it often resigns before I get a chance to play the endings out. What I mean by this is that just because it can see the mate doesn't mean that I can. It would be...

Pillsbury's umbrella by Jeremy Spinrad
In the hot summer of 1896, there were three very bizarre disputes in various New York chess clubs. One involved a question of whether a letter had been inappropriately opened; this case even went to the New York Supreme Court. A second involved an innocuous speech which was interpreted by Steinitz as an attack on him (he was not even there for the speech, but hearing one line led him to...

When should Fischer have won the world championship? by Jud McCranie
When do you think is the earliest that Fischer should have / could have won the world championship? 1969? 1966? Other? (My guess is 1969) ------------------------------------- Replace you know what by "j" to email.

Beatriz Marinello has gone to Chile for a month by Sam Sloan
Beatriz Marinello has gone to Chile for a month I have just received the shocking news that USCF President, Beatriz Marinello has gone to Chile for a month. She is apparently sick and in the hospital. I wish her a speedy recovery. The question is who is going to be running the USCF while she is gone.
