Who was the WEAKEST ***WOMEN'S*** World Champion of Chess ever? by
GM Susan Polgar
1) Back in '72 I thought it would have been clever of Fischer to have
played
1. d4 versus Spassky. Actually I think in one game he did reach a
Q-side type
position by transposition and won nicely.
2) There have been many rumors that you've played Fischer at least
one or
two speed games.. and beat him. Is that true?

Ponomariov`s Interview by
Jerzy
You can read an interview with FIDE world chess champion Ruslan Ponomariov
on :
http://www.etcc.chessbg.com/interviews?i=read&id=4
He confirms my suspicions that we should blame FIDE with its president
Kirsan Ilyumzhinov for the cancellations of the matches ...
What`s more Ponomariov points out the role Kasparov could have played in the
cancellation of the second match in Yalta. It`s nice to...

Board against Board, History? by
Phil Innes
In 1999 the Russian Federation Board Members challenged the USCF Board to a
match which was, erm, declined. Now, three and a half years later, the
gauntlet has been returned by a representative of the current board in
proper Greek style.

Why did I ever get involved in this :( ?
For serious chess historians, has there ever been a match between two

Why women are less efficient at chess than men? by
Franky1998
I hope that the women reading this can be objective in responding to my
question, and don't think that I am a male chauvinist or something similar. To
the opposite I am upset with that fact, so I am doing a researc on this.
Thank you,

Lev Khariton's Archives: (200 Words): Letter to New in Chess - by
Aryeh Davidoff
From My Archives: Letter to New in Chess
As I have noted, more than once I happened to comment on Korchnoi's
strange escapades off the chess board. I wrote the letter cited below
to New in Chess in April 1966. It was my reaction to Korchnoi's weird
remarks in his letter to the FIDE President Kirsan Ilyumzhinov.
Dear Sirs,
With all due respect to grandmaster Viktor Korchnoi, I can only regret

Teaching chess by
Matthew
Is there an inexpensive book or series suitable for weekly chess lessons? I
am a high school coach (not that great a player, about 1600) and I would
like to give individual lessons to some of my students. What I need help
with is laying out the topics (what should come first) and finding
appropriate materials. My best players are about as strong as I am, and we
have a lot of under 1000 class...

rating based on the moves rather than the result by
Sterten
are there already programs/projects to calculate a rating
by looking at the moves of a particular game ?
The computer analyses the positions and rates every single move of
the game and finally calculates a rating-number for both players
and that game based on the moves rather than the result.
The program will be optimised so that the overall rating
difference of a players reflect the...

When is it appropriate to ban a player from a chess club? by
Sam Sloan
When is it appropriate to ban a player from a chess club?
Veteran Master Boris Feldman has recently been banned from the
Marshall Chess Club. He will not be allowed to enter the club until
December 31, 2003, but he will be allowed to return to the club after
that. His membership dues are paid up-to-date and will not be
refunded.
The person who initiated the proposal to ban Feldman was...

Lev Khariton: Korchnoi Under Flohr's Fire by
Aryeh Davidoff
Korchnoi Under Flohr's Fire
In many of my comments I often criticize Viktor Korchnoi's recent
public statements. Readers can remember my articles "Korchnoi Returns"
when Korchnoi spoke with disrespect about Fischer) or "Korchnoi vs.
Keres" with Viktor's wrong allegations against Keres.
It is difficult to defend Korchnoi's escapades against these
outstanding chess players. However, we must not...

Lasker, complete games by
Alan O'Brien
I want to buy a book of Lasker's Complete Games, whether in one volume or
not.
The well-known book by Ken Whyld doesn't look very good; I thought the
typeface was a bit small. I'd rather have a bigger book.
There's also a book by Varnusz that got some bad reviews.
There's also one by Soloviev.
Any advice about which is the best one?
