Kn+Rook's pawn vs Kn by E386tyz
I ended up in unusual ending last night and we drew the game. Is there a way for white (with the pawn) to win with correct play from Black?

Kasparov's Relative Peak vs Fischer's Relative Peak by oxtut
From a search of all the Fide rating lists it seems that at his peak Kasparov was just as far ahead of the level of contemporary strong GMs as Fischer was. Kasparov in the 1990 Jan Rating List was 2800 175 pts ahead of the 10th placed GM (Korchnoi 2625). Fischer in the 1973 Jan rating List was 2785 175 pts ahead of the 10th placed GM (Smyslov 2610)

Tim Hanke's Cultural Prejudice by NoMoreChess
.. The latest attempt by a poster known as "Nick the liar," has taken the approach of snipping-up some old material so badly that it is virtually unrecognizable. Mr. Bourbaki's decided tendency to misinterpret -- if that is quite the word -- what several other posters here have written here in the past, is well established already, so I don't think it worth my time to confute any further such...

Old Chess Anecdotes by Jeremy Spinrad
I have been reading stories about chess in old newspapers, originally to update my list of old chess results. However, you come across a few stories that are amusing, and I thought I would share some with you. To make my posts short, I will only include one anecdote in each post. Hope you enjoy! From the London Times February 12, 1848, page 8, story on the death of the Archbishop of...

Susan Polgar by LeModernCaveman
Want to talk about ABUSE? How about having to hear about what a GREAT GUY the man is in the beginning, and then having to adjust my opinion of him 180 degrees on the woman's whim? That's hardly an abuse of YOU. "Love is blind". If that is the case, you have essentially brought into question the validity of every relationship, even the *apparently* happy ones.

my fancy chess set by Chris Kantack
This is a bit of a diversion from my usual handheld computer chess reviews. As a gift for doing some excellent "beta testing" this year on some Excalibur handheld prototypes, I received the "Excalibur Hall of Fame Collector's Edition" chess set. I've very much enjoyed owning this set. Last night I posted a short web page (with photos) of it. If interested, just click on the link...

Concentration Exercises?? by drummerman
Recently, I have been reading A New Era: How Garry Kasparov Changed the World of Chess. The authors, in describing his entrance to the first game of the second DeepBlue match, state: "At five minutes to three, Garry walked into the playing room...He took his seat and proceeded to go through a series of CONCENTRATION EXERCISES (Caps mine)... Following the exercises, "as if coming out of a...

How to make a game collection available? by DDEckerslyke
At the moment I'm going through Understanding Chess Move by Move by John Nunn. I'm inputting the moves into Chessbase Light. I'd like to make this file generally available to save anyone else who wants it having to spend time on it. What is the best way to do this? Obviously I could Email the file to anyone who requests it but it would be better if it was centrally available for download...

how do I delete individual games from PGN files ? by Ian Hurley
for example, the log file in Blitzin is a PGN file which can be viewed using Fritz. But I can't seem to delete games from the file unless I convert it to CBH. Isn't there a way to manipulate PGN data without converting it to CBH ? thanks

Parr on Winter by NoMoreChess
.. Larry Parr has a "very long" article posted at chesscity.com, in which he attacks Edward Winter in an attempt to avenge that writer's criticism of GM Larry Evans. This is supposed to be just part of what will eventually appear in book form, though I can't imagine who would buy such a book, apart from the precious few who are still smarting from Winter's attacks on their own work. Anyhow, I...
