USCF rating update???? by
Ivan
When are they going to update the ratings and post the August
supplement ratings?
I went to ww.64.com/uscf/ratings and it says that the next update will
be on July 18, 2003.
But it is past that date already.
thank you

I voted for Sam Sloan AND Tim Hanke. by

When you nuke sand it may well become glass, but the OIL
underneath becomes contaminated by radiation, making it
useless for decades! Didn't you see the movie, "Goldfinger"?
I thought it was Never Say Never Again.

Lev Khariton- 200 Words -about “My Great Predecessors” by

Lev Khariton- 200 Words
http://www.pakchess.com/
A quote from Kasparov’s interview conducted by Hanon Russell at the
inauguration of his book “My Great Predecessors”: “…My mother told me, “Look
Garry, you did a lot of good things in the world of chess, you played great
games, but you have to leave a sort of legacy behind you. No one will be
able to do it.” And also now we are sort of facing, I...

3 points for a win ? 1 point for a draw ? This is the first time I have
heard of this. Perhaps 1 point for a Win and 0 points for a draw would be
better !
I`ve seen lately an interesting suggestion to give 3 points for a win and 2
points for a draw and of course 0...

Irony of Tim Hanke's Victory by
Sam Sloan
Irony of Tim Hanke's Victory
Does anybody else find it ironic that Tim Hanke campaigned for office
on an anti-corruption campaign and, upon winning the election, demands
more money for himself than any previous candidate has ever demanded.
Apparently, he believed his own campaign platform, that Executive
Board members and other insiders are stealing money from the
federation. He decided to run...

heavy chess set - catalog recommendation by

I would like to see much a heavier set than the "triple-weighted" -
perhaps a solid metal set - it would be good excercise and will easily
wear down your smaller and "weaker" opponents!

I would like to see a ballot count for the 60 late ballots by
Sam Sloan
I would like to see a ballot count for the 60 late ballots.
I have been informed that 60 ballots received from USCF members were
declared invalid by the auditors because they were postmarked after
July 7 or were not postmarked at all, even though they were received
by July 15.
I think that this was wrong and should be changed. I would also like
to see those ballots opened and counted now.

Good books? by
47 Ronin
I new to the game of chess, I know the rules, but very little about the
strategy of the game can anyone suggest a good book for beginners or perhaps
even a free website?
Thank in advance for your patience and suggestion,

Ban Politics from chess.misc by
Eric Hicks
I thought this was the chess board.
I vote we keep politics off this board since there is plenty to go
around on the other politics group.
I think United States chess politics sucks, and that is why the USCF is
in such bad position, and why the United States remains "the sleeping
giant" in the chess scene (a Kasparov quote).

Brilliant Blunders (or Unintentional Brilliancies) by
dan foley
Some years ago I was paired with a CM in a weekend swiss and had a
most unusual game (I would give the score but can't find it). I
gambited a pawn in the opening, and got some compensation in the form
of piece activity and the bishop pair - but my opponent (seemingly)
defended well and began to stablize the position, forcing a queen
trade. I began to get nervous. At the critical moment of the...

Flame Wars for USCF Executive Board Expenses
It started with a posting by Tim Hanke on July 19. He said:
"I would settle for having my frigging out-of-pocket expenses
reimbursed, but it doesn't look as if even that's going to happen."

What was more surprising was that on July 20, another candidate, Mikel

Would anyone who *seriously* voted for Sloan thinking he was a *serious*
