What's A Productive Way to... by
SilverStarPub
....use your time when you're not 'on the clock.' ( Your opponent's time is
running.)
Do you do a piece count?
Do you find out what your opponent could be up to?
Does it matter if you have the better or worse position?
Do you goof off? :-)

Alekhine WWII articles - German text by
Yuri Garrett
Dear everyone,
I am an Italian "would-be chess historian" and editor. I am looking for
the exact German text of the infamous "Jewish and Aryan Chess" articles
by Alexander Alekhine as also for their exact dates and medium of
publication.
Any help in this respect would be greatly appreciated (full text, hints,
any information whatsoever).

my Great Predecessors by
NoMoreChess
Again, I wanted to find out what Garry thought about his
predecessors,
Did you? Did Garry pour his heart and soul into this project, while leaving
only the cover design to whatshisface? The evidence shows otherwise.
Perhaps "Fighting Chess: My Games and Career" is more what you were looking
for?

Visiting NYC by
Paul Henney
Greetings,
I'm visiting NYC in August (from UK) for a short break (I've been told I'll
fry!) and am looking for a recommendation for a good chess shop (books, sets
etc etc) in the city.
Am staying in west midtown. Also anywhere I can just drop in for a game?
Cheers

question about game analysis by
Dan Yobry
Here's a question.
Are there any sites on the internet where you can submit a game for free
analysis?
Just wondering.

A FLASHBACK WITHOUT REGRETS - by Lev Khariton by

A FLASHBACK WITHOUT REGRETS
Meudon is a nice countryside, 15 minutes' train ride from Paris. Here I came
on January 27, 1997 to interview Boris Spassky just three days before his
60th birthday. His reminiscences concerning his past life, his chess career,
his rivals and friends will be undoubtedly interesting for all readers.

Article on Hikaru Nakamura in Wall St. Journal by
Mig
Paul Hoffman, an author who writes on chess and many other things for
the NY Times and many mainstream magazines, has a short article on
Nakamura at the National Open. I believe it appeared in the print
version of Tuesday's Journal. It has some funny bits in which Nakamura
criticizes his step-father's play. (Sunil Weermantry, his former
coach.)
It concludes:
'His fellow competitors marvel at...

Nakamura Proves Americans Are LAZY by

It's about time an American cleaned house and made the rest of this country's
players look like the stupid, weak idiots that they are.
See what good study habits will do?

Questions about chess... by
Christopher
Hi guys/gals,
I've discovered chess only last year, and I've been playing it ever
since....especially against the computer and human players. It's the
best game I've ever played....
I have a few questions about chess....
1) Why is it that losing at chess....is supposed to make you a
stronger player in the end? It just seems logical that losing at chess

Writing about the same topic is not plagiarism, the act of taking and using
ones words, ideas and inventions as ones own.
The evidence of plagiarism would be a side by side explication of the text.
The author and publisher may be quilty of something or the other but is it
really plagiarism? I was also surprised at how plagiarism was actually
spelled.

Article: Kasparov on Chess Software by
Joe Nasal
I often think about chess as a "Turing Test". I enjoyed Garry's point of view on the subject:
Machines use 95 per cent calculation and 5 per cent so-called "positional understanding", which a machine inherits from its creators. Humans use 99 per cent intuition and 1 per cent calculation, but very often we come to the same conclusion. So does it mean that the machine's process is an imitation of...
