sharks "stalking" Bobby and Boris in the Adriatic by
NoMoreChess
..
p.s. It loses teeth, by biting metal things, but these quickly grow
back..
Not to worry: Bobby had all those "metal things" removed years ago, to keep
the Russians from controlling his brainwaves!
So you see, the shark would not have been hurt at all, and Boris -- being the
kind of guy he is -- would undoubtedly have rescued Bobby. Realisticly,

Tactical motifs (not only king attacking patterns) by
kempelen
I have a tactical question. I bought a fantastic book some months ago:
"sharpen your tactics" . I do problems all days with this book
combined with ct-art 3.0 software and I see results, maybe not in
practical results but my thinking process, that I am seening is more
accurate. I am sure I will see practical results soon as a logic
process (at less is samething I "feel"). Anyway there is one...

Terribly ot Eudora.. by
michael adams
'day,
Recently Sloan eulogised Eudora (3), it is of no interest to idiot virus
makers etc. I wish he'd keep his motor mouth to himself. It is true that
bundled stuff like ie6 & 'outlock' mx etc. are targeted by idiot moron
skateboard bores intent on proving 'something'. B. Gates is taking a
personal interest in your 'puter, as I type - you need to believe this.
Fact is 'Eudora aka Netscape' got...

Since You Asked: A Comprehensive Plan for USCF's Future by
Parrthenon
MOST "CHESSPLAYERS" ARE NOT PLAYERS
By Larry Parr
I'm glad that Tim Hanke is "rethinking" his plans. Cutting out the
printed copy of Chess Life, the most visible benefit of Federation membership
for most members, would be the end of the USCF.
The statistics are absolutely clear on this point.

Chas. Bronson has died at 81. My question is, in his life instead of
being a highly paid hollywood 'ham' might he perhaps have excelled in
the realm of ballet, or even chess? ..

Winning Material in the Middle Game by
Randy
Hi,
I am an experienced beginner (about 1250 - 1300). I am working through
a couple of books (Reassess, and one on openings). Right now, I think
that Reassess is a bit over my head. Given the level that I play at,
as well as my own misery upon losing material during the middle game,
I am looking for a book or a web site that has middle game puzzles
where the objective is to win material. I...

Tim Hanke's Dream World by
Paul Rubin
"Tim Hanke" writes:
Most of Sam Sloan's description of my ideas is either outright falsehood, or
extremely misleading. I guess Sam acts this way to get attention.
I plan to present an income and expense budget for my plan to the Board. I
will also post this income and expense budget on the Web, so reasonable
people can comment on it.
As I said, I think...

worldchamps nicknames by

wondering-
do all the world champions have nicknames?
does Kramnik? Kasparov "monster with 1000 eyes" or "beast from Baku",
those are good ones. Karpov? Fischer? Spassky? Petrosian "Tiger" but
anything else? Tal "magician from Riga" another good one. Smyslov?
Botvinnik? Euwe? Alekhine? Capablanca "The Machine" or something like
that? Lasker? Steinitz? Surely they all must have had...

How much time in prison should the maker of the Blaster virus get?? by
Sam Sloan
How much time in prison should the maker of the Blaster virus get??
The FBI has just announced the arrest of an 18-year-old poor innocent
child who created the Blaster Worm. He also created a similar virus
called the LovSan virus last week. (At first I thought he named it
after me).
This is a murky area of the law. Creating a computer virus is not
clearly a crime. What law makes it illegal??...

Thinking About Returning to Chess.. by
GreyHipster
After having achieved a respectable patzer rating of 1800 in 1973, I
left organized chess. Why? Slow time limits, for one. Waiting
ten/fifteen minutes for some idiot to make an obvious recapture is
exasperating! Forty move an hour "tornado tournaments" were ok, but
too rare. And then there were the nerds, dweebs, and dorks who
frequented tournaments... ;-) and no women in sight..bleah...A...

replace Ponomariov with Shirov? by
Bill Brock
Based on Shirov's form in the past few years, this might be as
competitive a match as Kasparov-Short was, but (just as in that
match), the games would have high entertainment value. I think it's
likely that Shirov would rise to the occasion, get over his Kasparov
complex, and play a competitive match.
Note the rough justice of the above proposal. Bonus: no short draws!
More to the point: I'd...

Self-Published Games Collections by
Neil Sullivan
There was a recent posting on the chesstalk.com bulletin board on this
subject. I would be interested to know if anyone was aware of self-published
games collections from non-masters.
Who has done it?
How did they prepare their games, i.e. format, etc.?
How did they go about printing their work?
Also, has anyone seen any of these that are particularly well done?

Dump Ponomariov !! by
Angelo DePalma
Unfortunately, by the time these events are held the players and their
qualifications may have lost some relevance. Kramnik has hardly played, and
turned in a rather lackluster performance this past month. Kasparov has lost
to Karpov and drawn a computer after wimping out. Pono won a crap shoot
known as the FIDE championship. Leko may very well be the strongest among
them.
Any of these clowns...

Orwell or Botvinnik?
200 Words by Lev Khariton
It is no secret that today we are living with a host (I would say a myriad)
of myths that we ourselves have built up over the years.
For example, George Orwell, doubtless an outstanding writer and in no less
degree a visionary, in his iconoclastic utopia “84” predicted the break-up
of the Soviet Empire. He is being remembered now, the year of his...
