Large Chess Pieces - looking for plans by The Horny Goat
Hello all! What I am looking for are plans and/or templates (preferably online but snail mail OK) suitable for making a large (King = 24" - 36" tall) chess set - I'm expecting the square size would be roughly 12" square. I'm looking for a set of plans suitable for a lathe equipped high school woodworking shop. In particular I'm looking for a suitable plan for the knight since that's the only...

Using Fischer "logic" by Joshua B. Lilly
Someone once queried me: "if you could ask Bobby Fischer ONE question, what would it be?" Considering that he and Kasparov are the two living ex-World Champions I`d LEAST like to speak to at all (they constantly vie for title of chess` greatest Childish Asshole to this day), I simply responded as such and let it go, starting to talk about how much I`d love to meet Smyslov (my favourite) or...

Once again, a call to let the USCF die by The Masked Bishop
Let the USCF die. Consider it a mercy killing. If that language is too strong for you, then how about euthanasia? How long would leave your brain-dead relative on a respirator? Because that is EXACTLY what you are doing when you fire off the $40 check every year. If that's too steep for you, rubber-neck, try this one. Consider exactly what you are getting for your coin. Three things, by my...

Anomalies in Historical Ratings by Anders Thulin
Jeremy Spinrad wrote: Ideally, if the system was run back and forth, iterated forever, it would reach some form of stability. You run how many times? Two or three? Some of your posting seems to suggest that you run the system backward: "To get the second result, I run the data forward to 1863, back to 1836, and forward again." Is this just another way of saying that...

Small world!! by FirebrandX
Hey I did the cover art on that book! As with any artist, I wished I could have gone back and applied some changes and improvements (new wood textures), but I'm getting better with each new cover. You should see the cover I recently finished for chess book on position tranformations! Even Dr. Nunn was quite thrilled with my work on that one! They have me doing harder and harder covers now....

Advice on starting a chess club by Bob Garrison
My town doesn't have one. I approached the local public library. They will provide 5 chess sets, a meeting room and allow me to put up posters on their bulletin board. Beyond that I really don't know how to go about it. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Chess set/pieces/accessories in Canada by Chess Learner
Hello, Could anyone let me know if there is any Canadian company that sells chess set/pieces/accessories (besides CFC) to the public? I have checked at local stores, but the selection is not many to choose from. I have gone through the web, but many of them are from the US and the shipment cost + tax alone can be close to what the price is. I am looking for tournament approved chess pieces and...
