Praise what is good - Ken Sloan! by Chess One
Ken I assume this is you? - if so - what a wonderful chess anecdote - I'm publishing the whole letter this weekend. A Beautiful Mind. This letter has a strange provenance - beginning in Alabama, but forwarded to readers' attention from IGM Adorjan in Hungary. (Ezt tök' véletlenül találtam a neten, elküldöm, hátha érdekel. A Chess One-t kertestem, de egy másik lap jött helyette. sok puszi....

GM norm seeking Irina Krush got off to a good start with a round one win with the black pieces, the only black win. Here is her Sicilian. Games are being carried live by Monroi and ICC.

Goichberg's anti-Sam Sloan Revised EB election voting method by samsloan
During the just-completed USCF Executive Board meeting, Bill Goichberg made two proposals for governance re-structuring. The second was obviously intended to stop Sam Sloan from winning another election to the USCf Executive Board. Fortunately, neither of these proposals had any support. Even Paul Truong, not generally known to be a big fan of Sam Sloan, could not support them. Nevertheless,...

Ideas on the U.S. Men's and Women's Championships by samsloan
Although your idea seems reasonable and has been suggested before, I do not think it is workable, for several reasons: 1. The USCF already has trouble raising money for the USCF Championship tournament every year. Under your plan, there would have to be money raised for a qualifying tournament. There will be little interest by the general public in this qualifying tournament, and the players...

"Guests" on the USCF Issues Forum by samsloan
The truth is finally out. Tim Sawmiller has never read the Mottershead Report. If he had read the Mottershead Report he would know this. Is that why we are prohibited from discussing the Mottershead Report on this USCF forums? http://www.shamema.com/mottershead.pdf

Sam Sloan beat USCF Master Richard Koepcke in 10 moves by samsloan
Since we have so few cases of contested races in small states, I don't know if we can definitively say whether or not it is easier to get elected from a small state than from a large state. The best example of the problem this would create is Mike Nolan himself. Mike is from Nebraska, a state with only one delegate slot. Yet, for some unknown reason, Nebraska has produced more chess

Susan Polgar has posted negative information about the medical condition of a political rival to her blog by samsloan
Susan Polgar has taken the entire posting by Beatriz Marinello on the USCF Forum and reposted it to her blog: http://susanpolgar.blogspot.com/2007/07/best-wishes-to-former-uscf-president.html Anybody who knows anything about Susan knows that she hates Beatriz. Therefore, I think that re-posting the post by Beatriz without permission over to Susan's Blog is an incredibly low-class, dirty trick.

Off with their heads; Off with their heads--Bill Hall by parrthenon@cs.com
CIRCLING THE WAGONS One is certainly disappointed in Joel Channing's behavior at the last Board meeting. I had rated him, along with Sam Sloan, as our two finest Board members. He may still be a positive influence, but his comments about Donna Alarie, who has brought up disturbing news indeed, were uncalled for. To the man's credit, he has apologized.

Former Art Director Reports Photo Archive was Thrown Out by samsloan
Yes, and thank you for pointing this out. I have been constantly attacked and maligned for the information I have provided, but one by one everything I have written is being proven true. If and when the tapes of the five meetings I attended as a member of the board are ever posted, as required by the by-laws, you will be able to see that the true situation is vastly worse than even I...

Rules question about "completing a turn" by chipschap@gmail.com
In a tournament game recently, in a tense endgame, my opponent made a move (picked up a piece, moved it to another square, and released the piece). He then didn't press the clock button. I didn't even notice that latter omission; I thought for a while and then made a move, whereupon he said rather sharply, "You can't move yet. My turn isn't over. I didn't press the clock yet." Um.... OK .......

November 3-4, 2007 USCF Executive Board Meeting by samsloan
That was because nothing got done. The major issues facing the board and the federation were ignored, with the board acting like the proverbial ostrich who, when faced with danger, sticks his head in the sand. Sam Sloan
