Since we have so few cases of contested races in small states, I don't know if we can definitively say whether or not it is easier to get elected from a small state than from a large state. In a tournament game recently, in a tense endgame, my opponent made a move (picked up a piece, moved it to another square, and released the piece). He then didn't press the clock button. I didn't even notice that latter omission; I thought for a while and then made a move, whereupon he said rather sharply, "You can't move yet. My turn isn't over. I didn't press the clock yet." Um.... OK .......

That was because nothing got done. The major issues facing the board and the federation were ignored, with the board acting like the proverbial ostrich who, when faced with danger, sticks his head in the sand. Sam Sloan
