Definition of a USCF Employee by
samsloan
The real issue here is that the rule that an employee may not be a
board member or a candidate for election to the board is not just a
USCF rule. It is a standard rule that applies generally to all not-for-
profit corporations.
Not-for-profit corporations do not have to pay taxes. If employees
could be board members and run the organization then all corporations
would convert to not-for-profit...

The Polgar Claim to have won the "Triple Crown" of Chess by
samsloan
The New York Times for March 3, 1992 reported:
The most recent such event was the Melody Amber Tournament at the
Vista Palace Hotel in Roquebrune/ Cap Martin, Monaco. (The tourney
name is that of the infant daughter of the sponsor, J. J. van
Oosterom, the former director of Volmac Software Group.) Twelve of the
world's best players (but not the world champion, Gary Kasparov) came
for the...

Disproof: Possible Number of Chess Games by
Berkeley Brett
Hello all:
How many possible Chess games are there?
Well, I think I've come up with an easy, intuitive disproof of a
number one often sees. Perhaps some of the mathematically savvy
readers of this group can give their opinion of my claim. (Thanks in
advance, should you choose to do so.)
Here's a number I often see:

Russian Czar bestowed the term 'grandmaster' by
Chess One[_2_]
I always thought this was a Fide-originated title, but no! Its:
Original Grandmasters: The first 5 players to be given the title
"Grandmaster" were Alexander Alekhine, Jose Capablanca, Siegbert Tarrasch,
Emanuel Lasker and Frank Marshall. After the conclusion of the 1914 St
Petersburg tournament, Czar Nicholas II of Russia officially bestowed the
title of "Grandmaster of Chess" on these 5...

Los Angeles Open Chess Tournament by
expochess07@yahoo.com
Summons to Chess Tourney!
Are you an utterly obsequious coward? We, the partisans,
paladins, and protagonists of the Exposition Park Chess Club very greatly desire the attendance of brave
chess players.
This first Sunday of the month, Dec. 2nd, 2007, will be the
occasion of a free, unrated, open, three-round chess tournament. Cash
prizes will *NOT* be awarded, but the names of the...

Chess Titans freeware on Vista and Kasparovs in-flight chess programare so weak by
raylopez99
In Microsoft Vista OS there is a free game is called "Chess Titans",
which, at the highest level, even a class C player can regularly
beat. And the crummy program doesn't even allow you to save games, it
just tracks how many games you've won. What a joke. 3D graphics are
nice however. Likewise for Kasparov's sponsored program that you find
on some Boeing 777 airplanes--even at the highest...

ChessBase 9 and Vista incompatible? by
raylopez99
I'm having problems running CB9 under Vista Ultimate 32 bit.
It was the only program of many that was flagged by the Vista
Installer as possibly incompatible, and, even when run under XP
emulation mode, the program is very slow.
Running under a top of the line E6550 core 2 duo chip.
Also the programmers of the "Big Database 2007" tried some tricks that
make it difficult to view the DVD under...

Paul truong's mistake was visiting anusha.com in 2005.
He believed is was just a music player that loaded.
Without knowing it he installed a backdoor trojan.
His laptop began to broadcast for the Real Fake Sam Sloan.
Until bm took the bait when the trojan was self-erased.

Ratpackers by
J.D. Walker
Chess friends,
I've seen the term ratpacker used frequently. I wondered what was meant
but left the matter aside while trying to understand other things. Now,
returning to it, I'd like to find out what you all mean when you refer
to someone as a ratpacker.
I wanted to approach the subject with a bit of preparatory work. I
investigated the Google archives. From the records available, it...

Poisoned Pawn, anyone? by
Chess One[_2_]
When I am playing correspondence I like to adopt an idea from S.
Gerzadowicz - from Diary of a Chess Master - at various stages of the game,
what is my assessment of each side's chances? Here is perhaps the most
laboriously played poisoned pawn in history - as if Bilek had never seen it
before - I wonder if it is encountered very much these days by players in
this forum? I mean - we 'know'...
