Impact of the Fake Sam Sloan Questioned by samsloan
That ignores a few facts the most important of which is that although I was not elected several times, I was several times the next one down in number of votes so that in a race where the top two were elected I finished third. Also, Bill Goichberg campaigned against me in every election. Had Goichberg merely stayed neutral and been neither for nor against me, I would have been elected several of...

A warning to USCF: leave the whistleblowers alone by parrthenon@cs.com
USCF NOT CULPABLE FOR TRUONG? Even if it is true that Paul Truong forged posts (and I am NOT asserting that he did), where is the evidence that this involved THE ORGANIZATION (i.e., the USCF)? -- Randy Bauer In the world of censor Randy Bauer, those who would expose a Federation politician successfully can be punished; and those politicians, if acting in a

Counting knight moves by foot
Quick! What's the minimum number of moves a knight on g6 needs to get to e4 ? To answer this question, most chess players will simply start to mentally move their knight around, counting the moves, until it lands on the desired square. Let's say you counted 4 moves: e5-g4-f6-e4 That's one way to get there, and so is: f8-e6-g5-e4. But is there a shorter route? To answer that question with some...

Homeless man is chess king of Washington by visualseeplus@yahoo.com
Homeless man is chess king of Washington by Virginie Montet Thu Oct 11, 1:02 AM ET WASHINGTON (AFP) - He sleeps on a bench, but he is king of chess during the day at Washington's Dupont Circle, where he dazzles beginners and masters alike with his winning moves on the park's stone chessboards. Tom Murphy, 49, makes what little money he has from teaching his

ED Bill Hall declares Martial Law on the USCF Forums by parrthenon@cs.com
OFF LIMITS In light of recent events, I feel it is in the best interest of the USCF to call a moratorium to discussions regarding someone posting as other real individuals on other discussion forums. This issue has potential legal liability ramifications from several directions, and I believe it to be my fiduciary responsibility at this time to place this topic on pause until more of the facts...

Postings disrespectful of Grandmaster Alexandra Kosteniuk by samsloan
Postings disrespectful of Grandmaster Alexandra Kosteniuk With regard to my recent lawsuit against Truong and Polgar, I have received an inquiry as to whether persistent attacks on Grandmaster Alexandra Kosteniuk could possibly have arisen from Polgar or Truong. Frankly, I had been unaware that anybody had been attacking Grandmaster Kosteniuk and for that reason I had never thought about the...

The Mottershead Report by parrthenon@cs.com
WHAT WILL HAPPEN? For the record, Larry, my little vignette was designed primarily to dramatize the rationalization and weaseling of those who seek to ignore, discredit or discount Mottershead's information BEFORE it has been evaluated by one or more independent credentialed experts. Our Experts should then forward their findings to those qualified to weigh the electronic evidence against other...

Jessie Gilbert Celebration Tournament announced by thedarkman
The message below was sent out by Coulsdon Chess Fellowship: http://www.ccfworld.com/Chess/ Dear Chess Players All of you will be aware that in July last year, Chess lost one of its finest young players in Jessie Gilbert. For us at Coulsdon, the loss of Jessie was a particular blow and not just because of her chess playing ability. Jessie had been with us since the age of 8 and we had watched...

John Fernandez comments by samsloan
These fake postings have been happening for years, back to when I was active on RGCP. At the time I (and many others) did a great deal of analysis and it seemed nearly 100% at the time that this poster seemed to be shadowing Mr. Truong. I always had cordial relationships with Paul, so I was quite a bit baffled that it was possible he was being very kind to me and then at some point slaying me...

USCF to Hire Lawyer Concerning Sloan's posting of 3 Pictures by Paul Truong by parrthenon@cs.com
SAM HAS A POINT Sam makes a very strong point: he certainly has a right, if he is willing to pay, to tapes of the Board meetings. Some of you out there who are on Sam's side in this current battle will eventually gain if you support him in this endeavour. One has to pry open the minutes even of public meetings when dealing with these characters and their cronies.

Example of abstract strategy on television: World Series of Backgammon. Any ideas for chess off this? by Rich Hutnik
Check out these two videos: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Ozb_aZXrOU http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hZzaeUNIWhI Using these two videos as examples, curious if anyone could see the likes of chess being done on television also. I notice an interesting backgammon clock. You get so many seconds to make a move. If after that fails, then you start to eat into a reserve clock. Could something...
