An Old Joke about Chess by
samsloan
Here is an old chess joke. I do not remember where I first read it, so
I am reciting it the best I can from memory. If anybody knows where it
was published please let me know.
It starts from an actual historical event, which was that at the great
Grandmaster tournament at St. Petersburg 1914, where the grandmaster
title was first awarded, Rubinstein was repeatedly woken up by the
Czar's Secret...

Frequency of KBN v K ending by
Chess One
In a conversation last winter I was telling another player that I can't
remember which corner you have to corral the king into to mate it, and every
time I read about this KBN v K ending, I have to figure out the mate, and
then which corner is the right one. But also, in 40 to 45 years of playing a
lot of chess, I never encountered it. "Neither have I" said this other
player, who has won a...

Cloth chess pieces and board by

Hello,
I have a relative in prison and they can only use a cloth chessboard and
cloth chess pieces. Nothing hard like plastic is allowed to avoid the
making of weapons in prison.
Does anyone know where I can buy a set of this nature ?

A Real Agenda for Chess in the C21st by
Chess One
This is an extract from the Squaawk! in this week's Alekhine's Parrot, see
http://www.chessville.com/Editorials/AlekhinesParrot/Index.htm
What constitutes a real agenda for USCF's prime mission and reason to exist?
The following factors seem like key elements in the mix:
1.. Penetration of the mainstream education market.

The Chessmate Ultima looks like it would be allowed.

Does anyone have the address of Dale Brandreth, publisher of Caissa

work, too.
Thanks.

Bill Goichberg's Long Service on the Board by
samsloan
Bill Goichberg's Long Service on the Board
Bill Goichberg has been a member of the USCF Board off and on since
the 1970s.
During that time, just as God made man in his own image, Bill
Goichberg has made the USCF in his own image.
Or to make another analogy, it used to be said, "What's Good for
General Motors is Good for the USA".

Polgar Letter to the Board by
samsloan
Here is the letter that started a big controversy in much the same way
as the controversy to move the Denker got started.
The letter looks innocent enough. She wrote, "The program would cost
the USCF $0 in out of pocket expense". However, it turned out that
Susan wanted one year of free ads in Chess Life which, she wrote,
would not cost the USCF a penny.
Within four days she started attacking...
