(From the FIDE-chess newsgroup)
MESSAGE FROM BRITISH GM RAYMOND KEENE It's time to leave fide. Ilumzinov-fide pres- has been outed by the cia as a pro saddam oil profiteer. Azmai-fide vice pres- has been arrested by spanish anti terrorist police. The drug testing was brilliant in calvia-they appointed a drugs tribunal with a minority of highly respected well known anti-drug test gms on i including jon speelman to give a thin veneer of authenticity to it-so that the decisons would involve them but always go in favour of the tests. They are now introducing OUT OF COMPETITION TESTING!! Fide cleverly targetted their man khasimdjanov who of course agreed to the test-then they targetted ivanchuk who dared not refuse in case it cost ukraine gold medal. Then they hit the small guys from bermuda and papua new guinea who of course declined and were disqualified (points stripped). Very clever intimidation tactics by fide-cunningly stalinist or orwellian-reminds me of animal farm. The uscf censure motion wasn't taken of course. The bull**** about the khasi kaspy match in dubai appears to be exactly that -bull****. How long can the uscf stand up right in the world while still adhering to this festering apology for a world body? The spanish organisers of calvia who loved chess are now planning to sue fide over the bloodbath into which their closing ceremony turned. I am sure Spain and Turkey would leave with the USA. Something must be done. -- Ray Keene From: To: Sent: 02 November, 2004 10:36 PM Subject: [fide-chess] The honorable men of FIDE GM Susan Polgar was asked to be drug tested within 10 seconds after she finished her game in the last round and won the best individual performance Gold medal. She of course passed it. No other member of the US Women's Olympiad team was asked to be tested. A few players refused to be tested. The next day, GM Speelman asked GM Polgar to join the drug testing panel. She politely declined the invitation. ****************************************** With all of the consequences if she had declined, Susan Polgar decided to take the drug test, which was submission to an irrational demand. I wish she had said no, quite frankly, though that would presumably have meant no medal and the like. I can't condemn her act, but I can wish that she had acted differently. Susan is to be congratulated for refusing to join the drug testing panel. So, then, FIDE has introduced this odious invasion privacy into chess. All hail the Bermudan and Papua New Guinea players who refused to bow down. -- Larry Parr __________________________________________________ ______________ "FIDE has made its decision. Players who refuse to be drug tested will not be able to play chess." -- Dr. Press, co-founder of the FIDE Medical Commission. |
