It's not a great movie -- as Wired says, it really overdoes the conspiracy theory stuff -- but it's interesting to watch and generally well made. Based on this review, I would have serious reservations about the film. Kasparov's allegation of cheating by the computer designers was unsportsmanlike and smacked strongly of cheap excuse-making. If, as the review indicates, his baseless charge has been made the center of the film, the director has not researched his subject well, and is aiming for sensationalism and not factuality. There are some factual errors in the review. For example, it is well-known that the automaton "The Turk" was operated by human players; why does the reviewer make it seem like the question is still open? Or is he merely repeating errors made in the film? For anyone seriously interested in a more factual treatment of the 1997 match, I would recommend "Behind Deep Blue" (Princeton University Press, 2002) a serious behind-the scenes account by Feng-Hsiung Hsu, one of the computer's designers. It addresses Kasparov's charges head-on. Taylor Kingston |

I don't know nuttin' about what Garry sez is a fact, but I do know one
thing. Carol Jarecki seemed to be having a religious experience everytime the computer made a good move. Who asked her to be arbiter? What qualified her to be an arbiter in the first place? BTW, the logs from IBM are published on their website of the event, which is still in residence here on the INET. -- Tom Klem La Caissa Nostra, that disgusting old gang of bigots and hate mongers. Just so you know.
Carol Jarecki attacked a nine year old. She smashed and berated his ego for two hours, under the false pretext of doing a story for the Children's Chess magazine of the federation. She is exactly the same kind of scum as you Sam. Bigoted and hateful. A waste of human skin. For a cartoon depicting this disgusting act: http://www.lvcm.com/nvchess/ZugZwang...r96/page3.html You'll recognize her "foul stench" the minute you come on board. -- Tom Klem La Caissa Nostra, that disgusting old gang of bigots and hate mongers. Not revenge.
I've made it a personal goal to never let people forget what these scumbags did. The national chess organization of the United States, had become a safe haven for people who couldn't win over the board if their lives depended upon it. So they took it upon themselves to destroy an entire successful Chess program here in Nevada, just because they had the power to do so. They lied, they cheated, they bribed a judge, and a whole host of other actions which would normally be considered criminal activity if this were anything but Chess. The jury is still out on whether or not they will continue to be a breeding ground for such unambigous bigotry and hatred. Simply because this person or that person has a successful program that has the label (as far as USCF was concerned) of "not invented here", they took it upon themselves to be destroyers. Chess in the United States is suffering under the remnants of this horror; and, to tell you the truth, I am sorry I ever heard of the game. Hatred and bigotry are serious charges, which I have more than proved to be true regarding these people over the years. -- Tom Klem La Caissa Nostra, that disgusting old gang of bigots and hate mongers.
