HIS.borve.demon.co.uk writes http://washingtontimes.com/upi-breaking/20050315-044153-6409r.htm Tokyo, Japan, Mar. 15 (UPI) -- Tokyo has rejected former chess champion Bobby Fischer's demand to be extradited to Iceland instead of the United States. Which is more likely... - these guys don't know what 'extradite' means? - or they just cut and paste what they're told to by CIA? No application has ever been made to extradite Fischer from anywhere to anywhere else. What he has so far been charged with by the US regime, is not extraditable in Japan. Playing chess in Yugoslavia has never been against the law in Japan. As for Iceland, well 'be extradited to' does not mean the same as 'travel to'. Oops, this article is in the 'Washington Times', not the 'Washington Post'. -- banana "The thing I hate about you, Rowntree, is the way you give Coca-Cola to your scum, and your best teddy-bear to Oxfam, and expect us to lick your frigid fingers for the rest of your frigid life." Japan's evidently stalling until extraditable charges are formalized. Playing chess in Yugoslavia has never been against the law in Japan. Although the Times lack the editorial standards of the Post, even the Washington Times editor should be red faced. |

Japan's evidently stalling until extraditable charges are formalized. You may well be right. I wonder whether the Icelandic government will view itself as a protecting power as far as this person is concerned whom they recognise to be stateless. I thought a passport was supposed to give a right of protection abroad. Fischer should be speaking with the Icelandic consulate. Any idea how it's all being reported in the media in Iceland? -- banana "The thing I hate about you, Rowntree, is the way you give Coca-Cola to your scum, and your best teddy-bear to Oxfam, and expect us to lick your frigid fingers for the rest of your frigid life."
