''Can a Brain Pill Make You a Better Chess Player?''; 2005 US Open
Chess Masters Get a Sin City View of the New Cognitive Supplement That
Helps Them Think Faster!

LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 8, 2005--Natrol Inc. (NASDAQ:NTOL)
Chess masters and fans at the 2005 US Open Chess Championship will get
a sneak preview of Natrol(R) brainSpeed(TM), the new cognitive health
supplement designed to help improve mental agility, promote attention
and maintain memory.(a) This innovative nutritional product hits the
chess world June 11, 2005 at the famed Riviera Hotel grand ballroom. In
a twist on chess tradition, Natrol and the US Chess Federation will
present the brainSpeed Human Chess Challenge, a regulation match where
two world-famous Grandmasters control a gigantic chessboard featuring
human beings as the chess pieces.

Natrol brainSpeed has been developed to take chess players to the next
level by targeting the cholinergic system - the key to mental
processing speed - by helping to accelerate reaction time, improve
decision making velocity and promote mental acuity. US Chess Open
attendees are invited to find out for themselves by attending the match
and visiting the Natrol table onsite at the Riviera.(a)

According to Beatriz Marinello, President of the US Chess Federation,
"Clearly chess is a game of the mind and working at the top of your
mental processing powers is critical to tournament play. We are
delighted to be embarking on this alliance with Natrol and we see a
direct connection between brainSpeed and our membership. We look
forward to many unique events together in the future."

The human chess pieces will also issue brainspeeding tickets to
attendees, inviting them to take the brainSpeedOmeter(TM) online test
to measure their current mental agility. This test establishes a
brainSpeed benchmark for attention, memory and mental performance and
then allows people to track their progress as they use the product. The
product will also be made available for sales during the Open before
its official retail launch in August.

About Natrol brainSpeed

Each brainSpeed product contains a proprietary core blend of nutrients
that has been identified as beneficial for attention, memory,
decision-making and other cognitive functions. With this core blend and
specific additional ingredients for each brainSpeed product, Natrol(R)

with regular usage. Natrol(R) brainSpeed Attention(TM), Natrol(R)
brainSpeed Perform(TM) and Natrol(R) brainSpeed Memory(TM) products
will be available at fine health food stores and other select retailers
beginning in August. For more information go to www.brainspeed.com.(a)

I thought that the actual number was approximately 80,000 members.
Which is it?

This is amazing. What next, endorsements for lifelike double dongs?
Lubricated blow-up sex dolls?

This "preparation"contains some pretty common stuff, like thiamin, niacin,
panthothenic acid. Also dimethylaminoethanol bitartrate, which I've never
seen in my drugstore, and something called huperizine (from the "toothed
clubmoss"). The product label also mentions "L-threanine, a mispelling (it
should be threonine, an amino acid, unless Natrol has discovered a new amino
acid). The order form lists a price of $39.99 per bottle but doesn't tell
you how many doses per bottle. I'm sure one could easily duplicate this
miracle medicine for probably 1/10 the price by purchasing the ingredients
as supplements. Or you could simply add $10 to the price and join USCF for a
year.

That was supposed to be a tie-in with the Tim Taylor article, but Bill
Goichberg forgot to pay the supplier and they withdrew prematurely.

Huperizine, or Chinese Club moss, contains a substance (Huperizine A)
which prevents the breakdown of acetylcholine in the brain.
Acetylcholine is a neurotransmitter necessary for memory function. The
most promising drugs for Alzheimer's disease work in the same manner,
although Huperizine appears to have a more precise mechanism whereby it
protects acetylcholine. Huperizine is useful for:
Alzheimer's disease
Memory loss (non-Alzheimer's)
Suggested dose:

For Alzheimer's: 50mcg, 2 times per day, morning and evening with
meals.
For Memory Loss: 50mcg once per day in the morning with breakfast.
Huperizine 50 mcg - Product # 2305 (60 Capsules) $19.95

the above is from a nutritional website. I don't think it is really
going to creste amazing results nor is it a miracle cure. I dont think
it will hurt, but I doubt it will have any lasting positive effects. No
more so the a "One A Day" vitamin would.

My game is beyond hope. Pleple dont even bother to annotate my games,
they just throw up their hands and say"nothing can be learned from your
games except that you can't play very well."

According to: http://detroitchess.com/USCFmem2.htm, just a tad over 80,000
at the moment. The number has been under 90,000 since January, 2004. Total
figures include affiliates and other categories of non-individual
membership.

This 90,000 figure came up a couple of months ago in another press release,
a TN newspaper article maybe?
