This goes beyond disagreement--do you think Parr wants to be associated
with your spreading groundless rumors about Wayne Praeder's (or
anyone's) sexual life? Parr is not my favorite person, nor am I his,
but I admit that that's not Parr's style.

Praeder has asked you to apologize. That would be an appropriate
action.

The part about Peter, Darryl, and Wayne. You left out Bruce.

MY TAKE

We hold many Swiss-system tournaments. Sometimes, when the very
strongest members have not played, I have managed to win some of these
tournaments. Can I therefore rightly claim to have "won an
international tournament"? Taylor Kingston

Our 2300+s ELO powerhouse (self-proclaimed) does not joke about
his
correspondence chess rating. True enough. He jokes about his OTB
rating.

As for Mr. Kingston's question, if a tournament is billed as
being international and if it were a swiss played 20 or 30 years back
or so before the phrase "international swiss" came to have a definite
meaning, then he might call his tournament an international swiss.
Otherwise, no.

If a third-party, however, wrote a description of Mr. Kingston
winning an "international tournament," then it would not be his
responsibility. If, on the
other hand, he himself writes, say, that he is a 2300+ ELO Grand Coulee
and then later claims it was a spoof a la Stan Booz, then he ought to
be held
responsible for his claim..

That's my take.

SAM SLOAN'S TAKE

Should Sam apologize to Wayne Praeder? If he said or implied that
the putative man does not exist, then he should certainly do so. GM
Larry Evans as chairman of Friends of the USCF has had extensive
dealings with the man.

As for the sex stuff, he owes Wayne an apology if he implied that the
man's first name was a homosexual invention for discussion groups, etc.
My recollection is that he did so imply and that he should tender an
apology.

At any rate, speculation about someone's sexual orientation has no
place on a chess newsgroup.

It is well known in NY that Sam Sloan is gay. He covers it up by marrying
ugly, uneducated immigrant women and then knocking them up. Everyone in NY
knows that Sam hangs out in gay bars and bus station men's rooms.

I just noticed that the person who made this comment was Bruce.

Is this true? When the TV show Batman was on the air years ago, there
were a lot of comments and complaints that Batman and Robin were gay.
The real name of Batman was, of course, Bruce Wayne. I never watched
the show, but I was made to understand that there were a lot of gay
inside references on the show. The Moral Majority got after them and
the TV show was cancelled.

I never knew that Darryl was a gay name until a friend pointed it out.
Apparently there was a gay porn movie entitled Bob & Darryl & Ted &
Fred, which was a take-off on the wife swapping movie Bob & Carol &
Ted & Alice. Ever since I have noticed that every time I meet a person
named Darryl he turns out to be gay. This must be very hard on a
person so unfortunate to have been named Darryl by his parents.
