Go to USCF site for this response and a lot more.
I invite questions from everyone but to be sure of getting them answered they must be asked at the USCF web site. I simply don't have time to continually jump back and forth between the sites. Don Schultz |

Maybe the better question would be why the USCF doesn't have a policy
of posting all positions with job requirements and salary ranges. Your answer on the specific jobs shows how these individuals were/might be hired, but doesn't give us any reason to believe that someone better/cheaper might not have come forward if the jobs were posted openly. Just as in the awarding of contracts, it seems to me to be better (especially for a non-profit) to openly announce what it is looking for and then analyze all the bids. It might well be that you can still get the best person/contract by only dealing with those who have already made some connection (in order to know of the job/contract's existence), but it certainly avoids a perceived conflict of interest and would appear to be in the USCF's best interest if everybody can find out about such jobs/contracts. martinak xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Martinak asked a great question. Schultz is ducking. Why weren't these positions openly announced for all instead of friends and family members of EB members? This sounds like a big political payoff. It's total BS that Shahade is highly qualified. What is her qualification? She has zero experience. She was never an editor. She was never in business. She has never been involved in building serious chess websites or chess contents. Don't bull **** the chess community. We are smarter than you think. This is simply a political payoff. Otherwise, why weren't these positions announced in Chess Life or uschess.org? |

Exactly. This underscores the official USCF moderated site's (or ANY moderated site's) lack of value for vital, but controversial, issues of this nature. A moderated site is great for non-threatening topics -- somebody else filters out all the spammers and outright crocks. BUT, one always has this nagging doubt that some posts may be omitted or edited (i.e., spun) in the interest of "fairness" or because the poster "just didn't understand" the issues. I've been wondering if the source of all the fake Sloan and Ray Gordon posts could be someone motivated to drive most of us to the official moderated site. |

Mike, It is interesting to note that the fake Sam Sloan, Ray Gordon, and Andrew Zito posts all come from an AOL NNTP-Posting-Host and posting-account with the following similar headers: User-Agent: G2/0.2 X-HTTP-UserAgent: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; AOL 9.0; Windows NT 5.1; SV1; .NET CLR 1.1.4322),gzip(gfe),gzip(gfe) X-HTTP-Via: HTTP/1.1 (Velocity/1.3.32 [uScMs f p eN:t cCMp s ]), HTTP/1.1 Turboweb [rtc-txxxx 8.3.5], HTTP/1.0 cache-rtc-aa02.proxy.aol.com[xxxxxxxx] (Traffic-Server/5.4.2 [uScM]) Regards, Wayne Praeder |

That is true, but hopefully people who actually care about the answers rather than playing "gotcha" will gravitate to the USCF Forum where civil discussions can take place. |

What civil discussion? The same *******s are rewarding their friends
and supporters with USCF money while this federation goes to ****. Answer the damn questions. Why weren't these positions opened to the public? Why must Schultz and company hide the truth? What professional experience does Shahade have? As far as the chess world knows, she has absolutely no experience in being an editor, website designer or chess content developer. She's not even in the top 200 players in the US. So writing a book about chess bitches qualifies her for this highly paid insider position? |

She's been US women's champion twice which means she's had lots of travel etc. in the chess scene, and knows all the top players. She has a track record as a writer (that book you mentioned) and a comparative literature degree. She's a sharp cookie and I think she'll do a good job on the web site. In fact I think she's a better appointment than I'd have expected the USCF fuddy duddies to come up with. But, like some other people here, I'd like to know a little more about the hiring process. |

What is her professional experience? So according to you, high rated
players would be great chess teachers too? And high rated players would have wonderful personalities as well? Hiring process? Just support Schultz and company and you'll be rewarded. That's how it works. The position is a political payoff. It's so obvious. |
