THE $50,000 MAN
Why is "mainstream journalist" Paul Hoffman ducking some tough but fair questions? Someone said he is laughing all the way to the bank with USCF dues money. From chessgames.com pazzed paun: I glanced at the May issue of chess life -- very thin -- if they take out Larry Evans column and whatever else to "save costs"--then the real chess content could be put on a single sheet of paper!! |

wrote in message ups.com... KINGSTON ACKNOWLEDGES MULTIPLE VOTING jr wrote: And how many times have you voted against renewing Evans On Chess, Mr. Kingston? The same number of times you lied about Richard Laurie, and one time more than you have acknowledged here what a fool you looked like when you were caught out. -- Taylor Kingston Thus, in his own inimitable fashion, our 2300+ Elo dynamo confirms that he has cast more than one vote against GM Evans. How many more is anyone's guess. Of course I can't prove it, but my estimate is that the ratpacker trio of Blair, Brennen and Kingston have cast about 2/3 of the no votes. Perhaps Phil Innes' webmaster at chessville.com can confirm my guess. Certainly possible, except that I shall decline to ask. I think another point has been made about a program of certain chess practices over the past few years which cannot be better illustrated than by this willful anecdote of petty corruption. What is called for is for an open vote among CL's readers who can decide for themselves if they want any chess at all in CL [after the recent issue this is a real concern!] and if USCF members care to be represented at all, either at home or abroad. AMERICANS FOR KIRSAN The scenario is very clear - it requires an authoritative voice such as Evans has to confront political meandering which produces an official American vote for Kirsan. Something quintessentially decent has been done away over the past few years by hired hacks accountable to no one other than their own ambitions and paychecks and where no one says 'the buck stops here' - so let the results of this process be no surprise, but viewed instead as the inevitable conclusion of the current process. "jr" wrote in message oups.com... *What a load of crap, Larry. I voted once -- that's all one's allowed in a properly run election.* (Kingston) Methinks he would like his pal Edward Winter, who is a patzer, to take over the Q&A column in Chess Life instead of America's most prominent living (sane) grandmaster whose honorable career spans over half a century with name recognition reaching all four corners of the globe. I don't like anonymous people making accusations against people with real names - although in this case we have the equally mysterious super-sniper Winter's Chess Dumpster-Column option in mind - which is far more disagreeable. So I put my name to the same observation. But I disagree with jr's conclusion. I doubt TK is that generous or subtle in preparing the way for the Master. I thinks he wants the column for himself and Fritz-baby. A sort of Winterette coupling of obscure anecdotal quibblings plus mediocre chessic appreciation. ![]() Phil Innes In addition to capturing the U.S. Championship five times, Evans was a mainstay on several of our Olympic teams, including a crew that won America's only postwar gold medal in 1976. What have you done for chess, Kingston, except whine here endlessly about four missing words in Chess Life that turned out to be insignifcant when they were finally revealed? |

some tough but fair questions? *Does everyone else (other than jr) see the hypocrisy of "editor" larry parr criticising someone who ducks tough but fair questions?* (g4) I'm not aware that Parr is under any obligation to answer any questions. He's not receiving a red cent from the USCF, let alone $50,000. |

TAPPER DANCING AGAIN
Wrong as usual, Larry. As I have already said, I voted once. Period. -- Taylor Kingston Yeah, right. Yes, I believe Kingston voted once -- under his real name. Yes, I also believe Kingston once was rated 2300+ Elo. NOT. First suspicions of skullduggery are advanced, with no supporting evidence whatsoever. Then in a matter of days, after several repetitive and increasingly strident posts, the skullduggery is referred to as if it were an established fact which no reasonable and objective reader could deny. We learn from this that Parr knows his Goebbels. Aside from that, we learn nothing. -- Larry Tapper If our old friend Larry Tapper doesn't think something is fishy, look at the following numbers. EVANS LEAD INCREASED As of 5/19/2006 at 4:54:08 AM Pacific Standard Time Should "Evans On Chess" continue in Chess Life? Yes 120 votes (52%) No 103 votes (44%) No Opinion 9 votes (4%) 232 people have voted so far EVANS TRAILING AGAIN A few hours later 24 more people "voted." Should "Evans On Chess" continue in Chess Life? Yes 121 votes (47%) No 125 votes (49%) No Opinion 10 votes (4%) 256 people have voted so far |
