This is very disturbing and a violation of FIDE Rules but we need to have it confirmed. Sam Sloan |

Needless crossposts removed.
"Tom Martinak" writes: What is your source for this? http://www.fide.com/news.asp?id=1029 I believe the General Assembly chose to defer the matter of the election of the Continental offices to the Continents, effectively circumventing the rule that requires a nominee's home federation to approve of the nomination. Beatriz obviously had the votes at the Americas Continent meeting. My understanding is that Beatriz has already repaid the USCF for the plane ticket and other expenses related to the FIDE Congress that had been previously paid to her, in compliance with the Board motion from last month. -- Mike Nolan |

And my understanding is that part of the price for her selling out the United States was to rid Chess Life of FIDE's greatest critic. So Beatriz got her payoff from Kirsan. It doesn't always take the form of a gold Rolex or cash in a brown envelope. |

MIKE NOLAN AT USCF FORUM
Tue Jun 13, 2006 3:39 pm According to the report on the election and the new FIDE Board on the FIDE website, Beatriz is (still) the General Secretary for the Americas Continent and Bill Kelleher is now a FIDE Vice-President. The USCF Executive Board will have to appoint a new FIDE Delegate, but there's probably no hurry on that. I believe the way the General Secretary issue was handled by the General Assembly was to defer the entire issue to the Continents, which circumvented the rules requiring that the nominee's home federation must approve of the nomination. But it has long been true that rules for FIDE are largely a matter of what the people in power want to do and Torino was a tour de force demonstration of that. |

BEATCHESS FEDERATION
The position that Beatriz got from FIDE is largely ceremonial and meaningless. Word from Turin is she didn't get the post she really wanted. |
