Sam Sloan Personally, I blame the EB. -- Kenneth Sloan Computer and Information Sciences +1-205-932-2213 University of Alabama at Birmingham FAX +1-205-934-5473 Birmingham, AL 35294-1170 http://www.cis.uab.edu/sloan/ I do too, but you cannot blame me, even though I am on the board, because the decisions that led to this situation were made before I was on the board. I took office on August 12, 2006. At the meeting on February 19, 2006 in Parsippany NJ, the board voted to hire a guru and to pay him $50,000 to upgrade the magazine and the website. The board also voted to hire and pay a web editor $40,000. Look at what we have gotten for our $90,000. Almost everyone agrees that the magazine is on balance worse than it used to be before we hired this "expert". The website was terrible, awful, horrible until a few weeks ago and it was finally improved only because I kept complaining about it. The content editor must have gone off to Uzbekistan because I am unable to find any of this supposedly great content on the website. They also blew $10,000 on a "retreat". What good did that do? I think we should do to all of them what I hope that the voters will do to George Bush in the coming election. And, by the way, the USCF is suffering huge financial losses again. Sam Sloan |

Sam Sloan Who's in charge of the website? How much does this person get? -- Money is not "game." Looks are not "game." Social status or value is not "game." Those are the things that game makes unnecessary. A seduction guru who teaches you that looks, money or status is game is not teaching you "game," but how to be an AFC. He uses his students' money to get women and laughs that "AFCs pay my rent." |

"Matt Nemmers" No, you can't have the job. And no, you couldn't do
better. Yeah, but he couldn't do it worse, either. Considering that $100,000.00 has gotten nothing, anyone could do the same at half the price. Isn't that the kind of bargain that the U.S. Chess Federation is famous for. I put in the first bid: I promise to do the same crap job for only $45K. A savings of $55K over the current crud. |

Sam's recurrent public lashing out at staff and other Board members indicates that he must think that he is above the rules. This latest missive was posted to BINFO when it clearly should have been CONFIDENTIAL. Furthermore, it is clearly in violation of Sections (1c), (2e) and (3d) of the Standards of Conduct for the USCF Executive Board. I hereby request that Bill Hall instruct Mike Nolan to reclassify it as soon as possible. In the hope that we might be able to work better together, I would ask Sam to acknowledge his mistakes and pledge to try to do better in the future. However, in the event that he is unwilling to do so before our upcoming meeting, I want this matter placed on the agenda for discussion and a possible vote of censure or referral to the Ethics Committee. Joel Channing Sorry, but this is not a confidential matter. The members have a right to know why the website is not working. Also, you have no right to order Bill Hall and Mike Nolan to do anything. I am however prepared to acknowledge and pledge to start informing the membership about what until now has been going on behind closed doors. Already the members are starting to complain that I have sold out and have become part of your problem. Sam Sloan |

By the way, it is time for the Credit where Credit is Due Department. Mike Nolan did a much better job maintaining the website for free than our highly paid webmasters are now doing for big money.
