Default Waste of time

Why do I visit this board? It is such a waste of time. Must be out of
habit gained from the olden golden days of rgcp.

Haasie I agree... I seem to visit here out of habit.

And there is nothing to read. I wish I could find the fake posters
I'd smash their computers over their heads... they have ruined this
place.

I remember some great fights here... Richard Peterson... Sam Sloan..
Jim Eade... Tom Klem... and the most evil "Charlie the Crab" .... lol

brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr :-)

Agreed. RGCP is now like Michael Jackson. People don't usually seek
him out for the enjoyment he USED to provide (music) anymore -- but
they'll go out of their way to check out his latest antic or facejob in
the tabloids.

RGCP is now a tabloid. Nothing more.

RGCP: RIP

rgcp is what people have made it. it isn't other people's fault that you are
not entertained

why not address what is not a waste of time - what forwards chess and what
ails it? some time ago I wrote an article about this ennui

read it at Chessville "Why I Am Sick and Tired of Reading About Susan
Polgar"

http://www.chessville.com/Editorials...usanPolgar.htm

Which is not anti-USCF, but does put the entire issue into proportion. When
I read these rather continuous current attacks by Eric Johnson or Sam Sloan,
I only think these are easy to conduct - its much more difficult to actually
compete in promoting chess.

What either of these characters have done is unknown to me, beyond the fact
of Eric running his club successfully, and Sam making some interesting tv
programs broadcast to the web.

This is the right level of 'criticism'; that is, to do as well or better -
otherwise these cries of 'doing nothing for USCF' are whistling in the dark,
and essentially irrelevant.

My article poses a challenge; if you had a hundred dollars [for example] to
donate, which outfit you would invest it in?

If there is just one critical question you would ask of either group, would
it be the same as mine? "Which of you are going to do better with this $100
bill to attract chess players and sustain their interest in the game?"

Or maybe you can think of a more central question of your own? But back to
the top, if you can't you mistook the window dressing of chess, for the
essence of chess, and rather than complain you might as well read the
national enquirer as blame other people for lacking what you do not provide
yourself

Should anyone be short of issues to consider, the latest one is the in the
dark decision of the USCF ethics panel regarding a current board member.
Another board member professed that he did not know that it was even going
on, and rather than assess its truth or implications, regretted the 'leak'.

Why such stuff as basic honesty and integrity needs to be 'leaked' is
something of USCF's own chosing, and may inform your choice of where to
spend your hundred bucks.

No, it's not. However, nearly all of the "entertaining" posters have
all but disappeared.

Just responding to this thread, Phil. Relax.

This shameless self-promotion is appreciated by all, I'm sure.

But this IS writing about chess politics - or chess management, if you like.
And it is promotion of that topic, which varies from the usual
arse-sniffing.

I just received an interesting response from a USCF delegate on this same
issue - he ducked the $100 challenge too. He couldn't offer a single
criterion how anyone should spend their money, never mind make a comparison.

10,000 chess players in 2003/2004 left USCF presumably because they thought
it was a waste of their time and not worth paying for. It is not so clear
that these folks stopped playing chess! Last week's news is that the SPF
seem to have connected with yet another 10,000 players not associated with
USCF.

People's frustrations, Matt, are that USCF have gone even further into the
dark, where ludicrously, even the subject of ethics are secret -
ROFL -Basically, this bores people to tears, but why they should expect any
greater engagement of their interest in chess with USCF /is/ unknown, and
that expectation is a waste of time.

Sure, playing is fun. Discussing it is a waste of time
